The holder of the position is responsible for IP matters in the area of transportation, with focus on the Americas. The position supports the central IP department of the MANN+HUMMEL group and reports to the Senior Manager Patents

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Drafting and prosecution of patent applications, experience in other jurisdictions (e.g. EP) is a plus
• Responsibility for handling IP rights, freedom to operate evaluations, and IP enforcement in the area of Transportation
• Global responsibility for a technical field as IP Business Partner
• Representation of Group Entities in patent and trademark prosecution with focus on patent drafting & prosecution
• Collaborate with all stakeholders and consult in all IP legal and related subject matters
• Be strategic and forward-thinking when it comes to identifying innovation and developing IP protection strategies and secure freedom to enter new field of businesses
• Actively encourage the development teams to improve Mann + Hummel’s IP portfolio
• Provide IP support for contracts and negotiation thereof in cooperation with Mann + Hummel’s legal department
• Perform IP trainings

Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree in physics, engineering, or another related area of study

Experience:

• 5 years’ minimum experience in Intellectual Property
• Experience in licensing, joint development agreements, relationship with universities and startup companies is an advantage

Required Skills:

• Strong experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications
• Strong experience in mechanics and/or material science
• Experience in drafting and negotiating of contracts, M&A projects, and litigation (is an advantage)
• View IP with a strategic and “IP as a business asset” mindset by anticipating future business, competitive and legal risks, and seeking creative solutions and opportunities
• Ability to work independently
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks
• Willingness to travel up to 10% Domestically & International

Preferred Skills:

• Qualified US patent Agent or Attorney, or European Patent Attorney, qualified national Patent Attorney in other major jurisdiction is considered as advantage
• Previous international experience
• in-house experience preferably in automotive
