- Bachelor’s degree in education, sports administration, counseling, or related field
- Desire to pursue a career in academic support for student-athletes
- Experience working with students in an educational environment
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high stress environment
This is a temporary position that will run from June 2023 – May 2024. The position will work between 25-28 hours per week.
The learning specialist will be supervised by the Assistant Director for Learning Services and will be primarily responsible for supporting student-athletes by helping to develop academic skills such as study strategies, time management, reading and writing skills, test-taking strategies, and coping mechanisms. This position will also perform additional duties related to the role, including, but not limited to:
- Conducting assessments and evaluations to determine student-athletes’ academic needs
- Developing and fulfilling academic support plans for at-risk student-athletes
- Creating study hall schedules for individual student-athletes
- Reviewing and monitoring academic progress for assigned student-athletes.
- Communicating with Academic Advisors to discuss student-athletes’ progress and development
- Compiling weekly academic reports to send to academic staff and coaches
- Assisting with supervision of afternoon and evening study halls
- Assisting with group academic support, such as midterm and finals study workshops
- Work with supervisor and other staff on various day-to-day charges and standing projects with our campus partners and academic community
- Master’s degree in education, sports administration, counseling, or related field
- Experience working with student-athletes in an academic setting
- Experience in NCAA Division-I athletics program
- Knowledge of educational regulations (FERPA, HIPPA, IDEA, ADA, 504, etc)
- Knowledge of NCAA compliance and eligibility regulations
Monday to Friday 8 am to 5 pm, with a 1- hour lunch. Some evening and weekend work will be required as needed. This position does not work during student and University breaks/holidays.
