Harlem Hospital Center has been a bedrock of the Harlem community since 1887. Duties & Responsibilities
- Obtains patient escort assignments and schedules from a designated Dispatch/Supervisor.
- Reports to Dispatch on completion of assignment.
- Identifies self to patient and explains the nature of trip.
- Transports patient to assigned areas per policy/procedure.
- Maintains safety when transporting/escorting patients.
- Adheres to patient confidentiality, when transporting patient with chart.
- Maintains control of patients' charts and releases chart only to authorized personnel.
- Transports patients by wheelchair, stretcher, bed or stretcher-bed and escorts ambulatory patients, including those with intravenous apparatus to and from various units, transfers and discharges.
- Reports all problems/potential (job related) to immediate supervisor.
- Escorts newly admitted patients to designated areas in the hospital complex and assists them in storing their luggage, packages, clothing and other items.
- Receives discharge patient in wheelchair on unit and transports patient to designated discharge area.
- Escorts/transports mother and infant when discharged safely to assigned discharge area.
- Transports body to morgue and assists morgue attendant in placing body in morgue storage. Cleans stretcher and returns to unit.
- Prepares and assembles equipment (stretchers and wheelchairs) in designated area.

Minimum Qualifications
Elementary school graduation or equivalent ability to effectively communicate with patients; Ability to keep simple clinical records.
