Position Summary

In support of the successful delivery of our impact ambition, Gary Community Ventures is looking to appoint a summer mission investing fellow. Specifically, the position will help define overall strategy in the impact areas of juvenile justice, youth mental health, decarceration, etc. through an investing lens.

Responsibilities

  • Deal Sourcing: Nurture relationships with top accelerators and other deal sources nationwide, Gain early visibility into deals, Conduct initial review of companies, Manage deal pipeline.
  • Deal Diligence: Diligence companies’ products and technology, competitive positioning, customer value proposition, and financial viability
  • Investing: Assist with investment decisions, Prepare investment memos
  • Impact Measurement & Reporting: Coach portfolio companies to align their impact with their business, and enable impact reporting and accountability
  • Colorado Ecosystem Building: Support portfolio companies that wish to expand in/to Colorado, by connecting them to key local resources and help build Colorado into one of the nation’s top communities of impact+tech entrepreneurs
  • Other duties as required
Requirements:


  • An ideal candidate would be someone who has spent time in community economic development, real estate development, private equity, community banking or community development financial institutions.
  • Experience in evaluating and loan underwriting desired, and established networks within the community preferred.
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from applicants, donors, stakeholders, partners, board members, managers and the general public.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders, including community investors, entrepreneurs, state and local agencies, and financial institutions.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to effectively present ideas and persuade others.
  • Deep commitment to issues around equity and alignment with Gary’s values on Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.

Working at Gary

Our downtown Denver, CO office location is near Union Station, and we provide parking or RTD passes to fellows.

This is not a virtual fellowship, as Gary believes in the value of our teams collaborating and building relationships in person. Our office, on the whole, does not operate in a remote environment. Again, we are open to occasional hybrid working situations, but we default to in-office work and we have regular in-person meetings.

The fellowship will begin in June, and the fellow can expect to work 30-40 hours per week for approximately 8-10 weeks of support.

The pay range for this position is a weekly salary of $2,000.00. For a maximum pay stipend of $20,000.00
