Position Summary: The Marketing Specialist will focus on promoting El Dorado. They will curate community activities to enhance the quality of life of citizens and to attract visitors. Successful efforts will require the development of partnerships and professional relationships with various stakeholder groups. The position will frequently collaborate with staff, volunteers, community partners, and sponsors in efforts to create a unique and destination experience in El Dorado and at El Dorado Lake.
Essential Functions:
~ Collaborate with stakeholders such as the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks, and Tourism (KDWPT), El Dorado Chamber of Commerce, El Dorado Main Street, Kansas Oil Museum, Shady Creek Marina, Walnut Valley Sailing Club, Butler Community College, and USD 490 and 375 to create and promote events and activities.
~ Recruit and help coordinate professional and trade association conferences and meetings.
~ Collaborate with Butler Community College, USD 490, USD 375, the El Dorado Walnuts, the American Legion League and other interested parties to host sports tournaments in El Dorado.
~ Develop professional relationships with stakeholders and educate them about destination-type marketing and packages.
~ Develop, promote, and coordinate community events with the primary focus of attracting multi-day visitors to the City of El Dorado.
~ Maintain updated information on the website and social media platforms.
~ Coordinate destination services packages for events and activities such as registration assistance, transportation assistance, promotional items, welcome bags, city tours, and other activities.
~ Serve as staff liaison with the Experience El Dorado Committee to ensure their active engagement with the El Dorado community and to obtain guidance on events and activities.
~ Coordinate logistical elements of events and meetings, including setup and strike, furniture arrangements, technical, audio-visual services, and support services; manage proper execution of facility rentals for internal and external events; provide proactive communication of event information and set clear expectations for event delivery.
~ Compose and produce in final form grant applications for various projects.
~ Contribute to good public relations through a professional and polite contact with public, both in person, on the telephone, and via email.
~ Work with Municipal Information Officer on the development, publication, and distribution of a variety of marketing mediums such as brochures, visitor"s guides, flyers, posters, calendars, information packets, web postings and other related communications.
~ Develop a plan to follow-up and report on local events. Physical Requirements
Manual dexterity to write legible and perform required duties on the computer
Visual acuity to read, interpret, and transcribe written material
Hearing, listening, and speaking ability to interact appropriately with other persons and on the phone
Stooping, bending, stretching, and occasional lifting not to exceed 50 pounds.
Standing/sitting for prolonged periods of time.
Qualifications
Education and Experience: (Combination of education and experience may be considered)
Post-secondary, vocational or trade school degree or certification, or associates degree in tourism, marketing, communications or closely related field.
Two years of experience in convention or large event planning, special event development, sports event recruitment, marketing, or general tourism experience.
Qualifications:
Demonstrate knowledge of the practices, principles, and ethics of marketing and event coordination
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to plan, organize, staff, direct, coordinate, and evaluate events.
Ability to establish cooperative and effective working relationships with the public, volunteers, and outside agencies.
Ability to understand and anticipate problems, to assist with the development of city policies, to prepare reports and budgets related to marketing and event development and facilitation.
Ability to utilize problem-solving skills.
Ability to exercise independent decision-making skills in resolving issues and prioritizing tasks, events, and projects.
Valid Kansas driver"s license required.
