THE CHALLENGE

Onward Energy is seeking an experienced Associate, Capital Markets to support the Capital Markets team. This role will develop and maintain asset valuation models, and work on ad-hoc analysis to support the rapid growth of our platform. You will be responsible for Excel based valuation modeling and performing analysis in support of new initiatives. This is a high-profile role that will provide exposure to corporate finance and project finance strategy while directly supporting the growth of Onward Energy.

THE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Capital Markets team in developing and maintaining valuation models across Onward Energy’s portfolio of wind, solar, gas and battery storage assets.
  • Work with internal and external teams to ensure accurate modeling assumptions and financial analysis.
  • Assist with raising debt capital for existing assets and acquisition targets, including creating models for lenders and coordinating lender due diligence.
  • Analyze investment opportunities from a quantitative and qualitative perspective including valuation modeling (DCF), financial statement analysis, market/industry research, and competitive analysis.
  • Develop internal memos and presentations focusing on investment returns and valuation metrics, present financial results to senior management.
  • Provide analytical and modeling capabilities for companywide initiatives including asset sales, asset re-contracting, redevelopment, and other portfolio projects.
  • Develop and strengthen external banking relationships within energy finance and project finance capital markets.
  • Assistance in managing team (1-2 associates).
  • Other duties as assigned.

THE PROFILE TO SUCCEED

Bachelor’s Degree in finance, engineering, business, economics, or related field.

  • Four (4) to six (6) years of experience in IPP, investment banking, consulting, project finance, development, or asset management in power and utilities with a focus on financial analysis.
  • Excellent financial modeling skills and exceptional analytical capabilities.
  • Experience in M&A transactions in the power and utilities sector, and/or renewable energy.
  • Experience with tax equity financing structures a plus.
  • Familiarity with US power markets with an eagerness to increase power market knowledge.
  • Self-starter with a strong work ethic.
  • Strong verbal/written communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work under strict deadlines; ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Team player with a “no task is too small” attitude.

THE PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to travel up to 10%.

THE WORK ENVIRONMENT

The position functions in a smoke and vaping free professional office environment. The role routinely utilizes standard office equipment such as laptop computer, phone, and scanner/photocopier.
