National Custom Hollow Metal is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to evaluate current manufacturing processes and implement improvements where needed to maximize operational efficiencies and improve product quality. The Manufacturing Engineer will play an integral role in helping the company streamline processes and achieve its quality initiatives.

This position is bonus eligible based on performance and will report to National’s Vice President of Operations.

Position Summary:

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for ensuring that National’s manufacturing processes are efficient, reduce wasted time, materials and product rejects, and result in the production of high-quality products meeting customer requirements and National’s quality standards.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

· Study product requirements and analyze current machinery, processes and manufacturing methods; develop and implement new procedures, as necessary, that result in more cost-, time- and resource-efficient operations, less waste, and improved quality of products.

· Ensure that manufacturing processes support product quality that is guided by NAAMM-HMMA, UL and Intertek standard-setting bodies.

· Evaluate manufacturing processes by applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, tooling and materials.

· Ensure that shop layout, machine operations and manufacturing workflows optimize production of products.

· Design and implement methods for process checks, testing, inspection and record keeping to support an effective Quality Management System.

· Identify and analyze quality issues; provide a weekly quality summary and propose improvements to quality control processes.

· Perform root-cause analysis and other problem-solving activities to identify effective preventive and corrective actions and process improvements to resolve quality, safety and productivity issues.

· Create work instructions for manufacturing processes; train employees in new and existing processes.

· Ensure that manufacturing procedures comply with safety and environmental regulations and company policies.

· Apply continuous improvement methods such as Lean/Six Sigma principles to enhance manufacturing quality, reliability and cost effectiveness.

· Maintain shop floor documentation to ensure product compliance with drawings and applicable manufacturing and design standards.

· Oversee calibration and testing programs and ensure they are completed as required.

· Keep apprised of new technology in the areas of equipment, processes and automation; assist in analyzing and selecting equipment to be purchased; identify processes where automation may be justified.

Competencies:

· Thorough knowledge of metal forming processes, fabrication methods and tool design.

· Familiarity with manufacturing equipment, CNC machining and quality assurance techniques.

· Project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and complete them on time.

· Commitment to quality and safety standards; knowledge of Lean manufacturing methodologies.

· Self-motivated with the initiative and drive to proactively take on projects and see them through to completion with little direction.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially in small group settings; capable of interacting and communicating with all levels within the company.

· Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office programs and good understanding of CAD software.

· Leadership and coaching skills; adept at small group training.

· A problem solver with analytical and creative thinking; attention to detail.

· Strong interpersonal skills; must be able to build collaborative relationships, minimize conflict and gain consensus.

· Demonstrated competency in math including fractions.

· Ability to read and understand technical drawings.

Education and Experience Qualifications:

· Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering or a related technical discipline.

· Minimum of 7 years’ experience in a manufacturing or process engineering role.

· Familiarity with CNC machinery and mechanical processes in a manufacturing environment.

· Knowledge of Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma and/or Toyota Kata methodologies preferred.

· Knowledge of metal fabrication (shears, presses, turrets, laser cutting) and MIG/TIG/laser/resistance welding a plus.
