Job Description Summary

This position will have responsibility for partnering with campus stakeholders in the further development, implementation, and continuous improvement of a comprehensive risk management program, empowering all campus departments to identify, assess, take, and mitigate risks throughout the university as well as working with leadership on the identification and management of broader institutional risks. This position will work closely with the General Counsel & Secretary to the Board, the Director of Purchasing & Insurance Programs, and other risk professionals on campus to proactively monitor and manage university risk and compliance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

1. Support the Enterprise Risk Management Committee, including in its work to partner with departments across the university;
2. Develop and refine university policies and procedures related to risk management and compliance;
3. Support the Director of Purchasing & Insurance Programs, including with respect to insurance renewals, analysis of coverage, loss control, claims management, and accumulation of risk exposure data;
4. Review and support the university community in the preparation and implementation of event-specific risk management plans;
5. Develop and refine university-wide compliance program and work closely with compliance partners across campus on matters involving regulatory compliance as well as institutional compliance;
6. Comfortable engaging across the university community with staff, faculty, and students regarding wide-ranging risk and compliance considerations such as human safety, reputational, financial, and physical property integrity.
7. Manage new initiatives and projects in the areas of risk management and compliance, including prioritizing and developing schedules for tasks, initiatives, or action plans.
8. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in university continuous improvement initiatives.
9. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in relevant areas which might include but is not limited to insurance and claims management, development of risk management and other loss control measures, policy development, and compliance.

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

  • Demonstrated ability to comprehensively identify risks and understand organizational priorities, drivers, values, and culture when developing and implementing compliance or risk programs and solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential information with appropriate discretion.
  • Strong skills in conflict resolution, problem solving, interviewing, and analysis.
  • Ability to produce high quality work product with attention to detail and within specified timeframes.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen well and demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for individual needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and professionally across multiple constituencies to resolve complaints in an impartial and fair manner.

Desirable Education and/or Experience

  • Advanced degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience in institution-wide or other broad scale risk management and/or compliance work.

  • Strong public presentation skills.

  • Ability to manage project tasks efficiently and effectively.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work harmoniously with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff.

  • Active participation in and maintenance of entity risk register
