Summary of Responsibilities
The maintenance supervisor supervises a staff of facilities and production maintenance workers who perform maintenance service and repairs in the areas of plumbing, carpentry, painting, plastering, and machine and electrical servicing for the organization’s facilities and production equipment. This position will monitor procedures and equipment to ensure efficiency and effectiveness. The maintenance supervisor contributes to the development of maintenance processes and procedures.
Primary Responsibilities
- Implement TPM program that supports operations and business objectives
- Conduct daily shift start-up meetings discussing safety issues and the expected workload.
- Maintain strict adherence to company and safety policies/procedures.
- Supervises safety and environmental programs to meet regulatory requirements.
- Create a culture of safety within the maintenance department.
- Participates in safety meetings and dialogs, performs Job Hazard Analysis, and performs Incident Investigations as needed to maintain the safest work environment possible
- Takes ownership of safety processes; performs maintenance safety program audits (Lockout/Tag out, Confined Space, Fall Protection, PPE, mobile equipment, etc.).
- Inform Manager of all employee or production issues as they arise.
- Directly supervises employees in the maintenance department
- Ensure machinery in area is safe and working optimally; maintain constant alert for hazardous conditions and practices.
- Responsible for equipment maintenance and reliability throughout the plant and will maintain and repair heavy industrial machinery which includes plant equipment, piping systems, fluid power systems, cutting, burning and all types of welding
- Responsible for building maintenance and reliability and will maintain all relevant plant systems including, but not limited to, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, landscaping/irrigation, HVAC, and general building construction and improvements.
- Ability to make decisions on equipment repairs and be self-motivated.
- Ability to read, follow and understand electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic drawings, blueprints, schematics, code requirements, service manuals and manufacturers’ specifications
- Monitors condition of equipment and makes maximum use of planned outages
- Reduces MTTO (occurrence restoration), increases MTBO (between occurrences)
- Works with Purchasing, Maintenance, Engineering, and Physical Distribution in maintaining services for the plant.
- Determines work priorities for weekly and daily maintenance schedules and assists in the coordination of maintenance activities affecting production or quality.
- Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize to ensure minimum interruption to process.
- Communicate, motivate, supervise, counsel, develop, and discipline all direct reports when necessary.
- Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training employees as well as apprising performance and rewarding/disciplining and addressing complaints
- Conduct annual employee performance reviews; work closely with Manager to implement wage increases
- Planning for new capital equipment acquisition, buyoff, and integration.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Must have good communication skills both verbal and written.
- Must have experience implementing and managing a TPM program.
- Must have working knowledge of all or some of the following: electrical/electronic circuits, PLC’s, wire installation/termination, combustion, power distribution, electronics process control computers conduit threading, schematics, bending and installation, AC and DC drives and welding.
- Must be "hands on" and ensure that all staff receives proper levels of training to enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities of team
Minimum Requirements
- Ability to perform Essential Duties and Responsibilities listed above
- Proficient use of Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook)
- Experience in Lean Manufacturing concepts and OSHA requirements
- Previous production and or supervisor experience
- Basic understanding of manufacturing equipment maintenance (hydraulics, pneumatic, motors, etc.)
- Preferred three (3) years journey-level experience as a maintenance technician maintaining and repairing heavy industrial machinery.
