Library Assistant II – Reserves Supervisor
Job description
This position is security-sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information.
- Opens the library and Service Desk weekday mornings, including opening cash register
- Processes paper course reserves material (including files, professor’s personal books, library books)
- Processes electronic reserves, including scanning, creating course pages, and linking scanned, database, or online material to course pages
- Provides faculty with information about their course reserve materials
- Provides faculty and students with basic information about copyright
- Refers faculty with more complex copyright questions to the Access Services Coordinator
- Maintains copyright records for course reserves
- Communicates consistently via face-to-face, email, and Microsoft Teams channels to keep the Access Services Manager and colleagues apprised of issues, project status, student worker performance, and so forth
- Staff the Service Desk, which includes, but is not limited to:
- Provides Circulation and Reserves services at the Service Desk
- Answer patron or faculty inquiries of a complex nature by telephone, email, or in person, including researching patron accounts and interpreting policy to patrons
- Handles patron cash and credit payments as needed
- Supervision of student assistants: prioritizing, delegating, and monitoring work
- Assists in the training of student assistants
- Recommends revisions to policy and procedures as needed
- With all other Access Services staff is responsible for building security
- Consistently enforce all Library and University policies for employees and patrons
- Processes patron Recalls and Holds, including book searches associated with Holds
- Notifies Billing staff when charges for recalls should be placed on a patron account
- Oversees Reserves and Holds book searches
- Audits Reserves equipment monthly
- Assists with monthly Circulation statistics in the absence of the Night Circulation Supervisor
- In the absence of the Access Services Manager or at the Manager’s request, help to process the daily departmental deposit
- In rotation with all other Access Services staff, helps to interview and hire student assistants as needed
- Assists in staff hiring committees and training new staff upon request
- Other projects
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- TouchNet computer point-of-sale (POS) software
- Flatbed scanner, KIC overhead scanner, and scanning software

Working conditions are normally in a semi-private or general working area of the library with little or no disagreeable conditions. Must be able to carry boxes, load and push book trucks and shelve books.
The usual shift will be Monday-Friday, 7:00AM-4:00PM. In addition, the Reserves Supervisor is on a rotation schedule with other Access Services staff and is required to work assigned Saturdays. Some evenings or nights may be required during staffing emergencies.
