Timberland Regional Library is an intercounty public library system whose service area spans from the Pacific Coast of Southwest Washington to the Foothills of Mount Rainier, and from the Hood Canal to the mouth of the Columbia River. The Aberdeen Timberland Library is seeking a Librarian or Public Services Specialist for Adult Services. This position delivers high-quality library programs and information services to the community based on district-identified community needs. Provides professional leadership in adult services. Under general supervision, this individual will coordinate and perform a variety of functions in their assigned area of responsibility. This position is supervised by and reports to a Library Manager or Assistant Library Manager as part of a service-oriented team.
- Schedule: Full-Time, 40 hours per week (1.0FTE).
- Type: This regular position is FLSA non-exempt, with benefits.
- Bargaining Unit: AFSCME Local 3758.
- Starting Pay For Librarian: The starting pay range for this position is $27.77 - $29.46 per hour. Employees new to Timberland Regional Library typically start at step 1, 2 or 3 of the pay range, depending upon qualification.
- Starting Pay For Public Services Specialist: The full pay range for this position is $26.96 - $37.32 per hour. Employees new to Timberland Regional Library typically start at step 1, 2 or 3 of the pay range, depending upon qualification.
Class specifications are intended to provide a descriptive list illustrative of the range of duties performed by employees in the class. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position. May be assigned any of the following duties:
- Plans, coordinates, schedules, and presents library programming for the local community, and completes program planning and evaluation reports. Coordinates and conducts a variety of community outreach activities for area of assignment.
- Provides information, reader’s advisory, and circulation services to the community in and out of the library.
- Keeps current with library trends and emerging technologies by seeking out and engaging in professional development opportunities and participating in professional organizations and committees.
- May assist in administering funding for programs and services as assigned.
- Works collaboratively with colleagues throughout the district.
- Participates in developing library facility goals and departmental objectives.
- In the absence of a supervisor, may act as the person in charge.
- Assists with the maintenance of library collections.
- May provide training and/or guidance to volunteer personnel and staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
For Librarian:
Master’s Degree in Library Science, and at least 6 months public library experience. In communities serving fewer than 4,000 people an equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted. (Equivalent qualifications include: Bachelor’s degree + 3 years’ experience; or Associates degree + 5 years’ experience; or High School equivalency + 10 years’ experience.)
Licenses, Certifications, and Special Requirements:
Valid Washington Driver’s License is required.
Must pass and maintain a criminal background check.
The ability to work evenings and weekends and to adapt to schedule changes on short notice.
State of Washington Librarian Certificate will be required for Librarian positions serving a community over 4,000 population per RCW 27.04.055.
For Public Services Specialist:
Bachelor's Degree and at least 6 months library experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Knowledge Of:
Employees are expected to perform or possess the following:
- Knowledge of library terminology, practices, services, processes, policies and procedures.
- Conducting reference, reader advisory, and circulation duties.
- Providing support in relation to library operations for area of assignment.
- Delivery of quality library services/programs to the community.
- Methods for coordinating and delivering library programming.
- Processes for conducting community outreach activities.
- Library computer systems, databases, and software.
- Customer service standards and procedures. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with library staff, volunteers, patrons, and the general public.
- Reader’s advisory, reference and circulation methods and techniques.
- Community library operations, programs and services.

- Microsoft Office Suite skills (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel) to satisfactorily complete job responsibilities
Physical and Environmental Conditions:
- Work is performed in a library environment and involves regular contact with the public.
- Subject to sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching and lifting objects up to 40 pounds.
- Must be able to push/pull library carts and lift/carry library materials.
- May be exposed to potentially intimidating and/or unreceptive members of the public.
- May work alone, without other library staff present, in the library or in community settings.
Timberland Regional Library staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. As a condition of employment, the chosen candidate will be required to provide proof of their COVID-19 vaccination as part of the hiring process, on their first day of employment. To ensure adequate time for an immune response to occur, a person is considered fully vaccinated 2 weeks after completion of a two-dose m RNA series or one dose of Janssen vaccine.
