- This is a Laboratory Technician position that focuses on performing required testing on incoming materials and finished product components to confirm and ensure standard of quality and adherence to appropriate standards and specifications are met.
Purpose (Sum up the position using one or two sentences)
- Performs sample preparation and testing as directed – making sure to perform all testing accurately and timely.
Areas of responsibility (Use active verbs to define areas of responsibility and especially the weight of each responsibility : “Manage”, “Support”, “Participate”; “Is responsible for”, “Is in charge of”, “Promote”, “Contribute” etc.)
- Perform laboratory testing to UL, CSA, ASTM, IEEE, ICEA, or other industry standards as directed.
- Ensure compliance to test requirements.
- Performs any activity as directed to support the laboratory function.
- Provides input and activity into the safe operation of the laboratory and surrounding area.
Expected results (What is the expected contribution of the position? What are the main objectives and expected results linked to objectives?)
- The technician will perform duties as required in the lab area. Duties include but are not limited to, Incoming material, conformance, work requests, UL projects, various cable testing projects, and housekeeping.
- Duties include but are not limited to, cleaning and maintaining lab equipment, calibration of lab equipment, sample requests and operation of lab cv line.
Position sizing (A few key indicators of the position such as: Revenue, Budget, Sales volume, number of N-1 etc.)
- Position directly reports to the Laboratory Manager and indirectly to the Director of Materials Technology
- There are no positions that report to this position.
Required skills and qualifications (Management and function competencies regarding available Nexans models, personal attributes, education, experience)
REQUIRED:
- Advanced math and computer skills. Must pass a written Math Assessment Test to be an eligible candidate for this position.
- Good attention to detail
- Experience or demonstrated ability to read, understand, and interpret pertinent test procedures or requirements
- Physical acuity needed to move heavy containers of material, cables, test equipment, etc. – in order to perform any testing required by this facility – including lifting, pulling, dissecting, and cutting up cables; capable of lifting up to 70 pounds.
- Physical acuity needed to properly and accurately perform, measure, and/or record any testing required by this facility
DESIRED:
- Experience in wire and cable manufacturing
- Experience in the operation and interpretation of test results or performance from typical rubber laboratory equipment and tests (mills, internal mixers, tensile tester, Mooney viscometers, Rheometers, etc.).
- Basic computer skills (especially MICROSOFT products)
- Good written and verbal communication skills
