Summary/Purpose
The Industrial Mechanic Apprentice will build on existing knowledge and skills in the mechanic maintenance field under the direction of an experienced plant industrial mechanic while completing classroom training through designed Amatrol courses.
Essential Duties and Accountabilities: (Expected upon completion of the apprenticeship program)

• Maintain and continuously develop a 5S system that addresses safety, housekeeping, quality, and continuous improvement.
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues and determine problem/cause and repair/replace defective parts.
• Perform preventive maintenance on plant equipment.
• Perform mechanical repairs dealing with hydraulics, pneumatics, fabrication, welding, burning, piping, etc.
• Perform basic electrical repairs replacing or troubleshooting motors.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• No supervisory responsibilities

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: (Hands-on and Written Amatrol assessments will be given to test base knowledge)

• Must possess at a minimum, basic knowledge of mechanical troubleshooting, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical repairs.
• Will be required to do high-level industrial mechanical work upon completion of the apprenticeship program.
• Must possess good communication and people interaction skills to work in a service area.
• Must have demonstrated good initiative and attendance in a previous or current job.
• Desirable to have machinist skills (lathe and mill).
• Must be a self-starter that can work with minimal supervision.
• Must possess acceptable skills in reading, math, and problem-solving.
• Must be willing to work flexible hours and be on an emergency call when needed. This will include arrangements for contact during non-scheduled hours and weekends.
• Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
• Must be comfortable working at heights.

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Previous work experience in a job with high mechanical skills is required
• Basic proficiency in hydraulics, pneumatics, fabrication, welding and burning, and piping is preferred
• To qualify for this program, you must also meet one of the following requirements:
• Completion of Fast Track Amatrol program
• Completion of a technical degree in industrial systems maintenance (or related field)
• Minimum 3 years’ experience as a mechanic (industrial environment preferred)

• Work is performed in a normal manufacturing area, and on the shop floor.
• This position has exposure to moderate noise levels, moving mechanical parts, electrical power distribution, and controls, compressed air systems, hydraulic systems, steam distribution and generation, various types of lubricants, chemical and wash baths, extreme heat from furnaces, extreme cold from cryogenic units, mechanical machine operation, etc.
• Will be regularly required to perform work in awkward positions (climb, stand, sit, and reach with hands, fingers, and arms). Occasional stooping, kneeling, and crouching are required.
• Regularly required to perform work in tight spaces.
• Work in confined spaces with proper training.
• This position requires moving of work up to 100 pounds (with assistance from others), and push or pulling work up to 250 pounds with proper equipment.
