Position Overview

This is a DOT-related position and will be subject to the FMCSA regulations. The primary duty of this role is to complete impact truck driving, flagging, and labor functions. The driver function requires the employee to drive an impact truck for highway jobs and other jobs requiring an impact truck on the jobsite. The flagging function of this job requires the employee to be out on a job site in all weather conditions flagging one lane roads, slow paddling work zones and helping traffic through active work zones. The labor function of this position requires the employee to assist drivers and/ or their driver load/ unload trucks at the office, in the yard or on a job site. Assisting with the set up and takedown of work zones for customers.


Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Follow all safety rules and regulations of the Company and particularly the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
  • Make deliveries, pick-ups and job checks in a safe, efficient, and timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and timely Pre-Trip and Post Trip Inspection Paperwork
  • Efficiently communicate with all levels of people - employees, customers, accident information, maintenance service schedules, etc.
  • Conduct themselves in a manner that promotes a professional and respectful atmosphere and ensure that the service encounter with the customer is an exceptional experience.
  • Perform a needs assessment when speaking with customers to translate their requests into our related products.
  • Maintain delivery/pickup tickets.
  • Maintain accurate and timely Pre-Trip and Post Trip Inspection paperwork.
  • Learn/Responsible for safe lifting, loading, and unloading of equipment to and from trucks.
  • Keep company vehicles clean and orderly, informing management of any safety concerns or vehicle problems.
  • Direct traffic safely around work zones using stop/slow paddles and hand signals by flagging motorists away from worker activities, moving equipment, oncoming traffic, etc.
  • Assist with setting up and taking down work zones that will protect workers and the travelling public.
  • Flexibility to work various schedules and stay late, when necessary, with little or no notice.
  • Able to work mid and night shifts.
  • Arrive at the work site on time wearing proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), e.g., hard hats, safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, masks, and earplugs as required, and when applicable, a respirator.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read maps and knowledge of local streets.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with an aptitude in building relationships with team members inside and out of the organization
  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated; capable of taking initiative, successfully handling, and prioritizing multiple competing assignments and effectively managing deadlines.
  • A passion for working in a high-growth business to the pace and expectations of the culture.
  • A passion for success, a positive and friendly attitude, and a consistent work ethic are all a must.
  • A strong knowledge of the traffic control/construction industry is a major plus.
  • Willing to travel as needed.

Work Settings/Description of Environmental Hazards Encountered.

  • Highways, city, and county roads. Working around moving vehicles on roadways and around moving heavy equipment at road construction site.

Travel

Daily travel to and from worksite, some overnight travel may be necessary


Working Environment/Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed outdoors in potentially extreme weather conditions / varying temperatures,g., exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, dry, and/or windy conditions.
  • General Lift/Carry Expectations: Must be able to up to 70 lbs. regularly. Constant lifting/carrying of material used to complete the job.
  • Standing: Constant standing throughout the shift. Position may require standing for periods greater than two hours at a time, for a total of greater than eight hours.
  • Walking: Constant walking throughout shift to complete worksite project.
  • Sitting: Sitting in vehicles for brief/long periods when moving from one location to another.
  • Reaching: Constant reaching to load and unload material and equipment. Included constant overhead reaching.
  • Stooping/Bending/Kneeling: Constant stooping/bending/kneeling when putting down and picking up material and equipment.
  • Twisting: Frequent twisting of the body from side to side.
  • Grasping: Constant grasping handles, brooms, shovels, roller knaps.
  • Pushing/Pulling: Frequent pushing and pulling of various work equipment.
  • Working safely requires quick/accurate hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to work at heights of 7-25 ft.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License and clean MVR **Must maintain a valid driver’s license during entire employment**
  • Pass pre-employment, random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion drug screens.
  • Satisfactory results of pre-employment background check
  • Hold/obtain DOT medical card.
  • Forklift certification and Flagger certification may be required or able to obtain
