Mission and Vision

The mission of Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission (HOTV) is to prevent, reduce, and eliminate poverty, hunger, and homelessness by offering immediate assistance and long-term solutions.
Position Purpose and Summary
The Human Resources Generalist position is responsible for all aspects of Human Resources including employee relations, recruitment, employee training and development, policy interpretation, compensation, and EDD claims as it relates to Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission
Working on a cross-functional work team and under the guidance of the HR Director, the HR Generalist will be responsible for all HR related activities of employees on programs managed by the team as it relates to Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings
  • Coordinates new hire orientations when applicable.
  • Ensures that the proper new hire paperwork and onboarding is completed and processed in HRIS system.
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave, disciplinary matters, disputes and investigations; performance and talent management
  • Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Coordinates with Payroll and Benefits personell as needed to ensure the proper HR processing occurs for employees according to the appropriate payroll cycle.
  • Interprets and administers leave of absence programs, including CFRA, FMLA and military programs in accordance with CA and federal law.
  • Responsible for coordinating training for employees and supervisors on HR Policies and Procedures and other required trainings.
  • Assists in addressing employee relations issues, including conflict resolution and workplace investigations, and provides guidance and documentation related to disciplinary actions and terminations.
  • Ensures that information changes and termination paperwork is completed and processed in HRIS system.
  • Responsible for all EDD claims
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion at all times.
  • Responsible for performing accurate HR file audits to ensure that all required documents are collected and are maintained inside of employee files.
  • Provides accurate clerical support duties for the H.R. department.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Supervisory experience managing programs and staff, with increasing leadership and management
responsibilities required.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations.
  • Highly motivated self-starter, with proven ability to develop creative solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize computers and proficiency in MS Office software
  • Project a professional demeanor and possess excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to work individually and as part of a team. Commitment to ending

  • Must have valid CA Driver's license
  • Must provide proof of vehicle insurance coverage
  • Must be able to qualify for HOTV’s commercial insurance coverage

Use a desktop and/or laptop computer; copy, postage, and fax machines. Complete all required forms in personal writing. Employee may work in proximity to service animals and emotional support animals.
