Horseback Riding Instructor
Job description
Purpose: To provide skill oriented riding lessons to a variety of riders, in a safe manner, following Winslow and PATH policies and standards. Instructors direct Lead and Side Walker Volunteers to ensure safe and impactful sessions tailored to the individualized needs of the rider.
Qualifications:
· Must be 18 years’ old
· Prior experience instructing riding lessons necessary
· Successful completion of Volunteer training at Winslow
· Must be able to demonstrate proficiency of horse handling, horse care and behavior
· High energy, positive, “can do” attitude, flexibility, teamwork, and attention to detail; high degree of initiative and problem solving skills
· Strong verbal and written communication skills
· Ability to think proactively and thorough understanding of WTC’s horse care and lesson procedures with attention to safety at all times
· Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in all weather.
· Flexible hours, Saturdays desirable.
Responsibilities:
· Instructing
o Instruct and lead traditional, Therapeutic Riding and/or Equine Assisted Learning classes for Winslow clients. Create and follow pre-planned lesson plan to ensure timely, efficient and impactful classes. Following up with progress notes.
o Maintain safe program environment for students, volunteers, and horses. Abiding by PATH and Winslow policies.
o Encourage progress and independence in students appropriate to their abilities, while challenging individuals to strive beyond the means.
· Volunteer Interaction
o Direct and guide Lead and Side Walker volunteers in a positive, respectful manner before, during and after classes. Empower the volunteers to provide the best possible experience for the rider.
o Assist with ongoing education opportunities as designated to ensure volunteer retention and appreciation. Every moment is a teachable moment.
o Respond to volunteer questions and concerns in a prompt manner knowing when to pass them up the chain of command.
· Horses
o Utilize horses under scheduled direction of the Head riding instructor. Communicate concerns or horse changes.
o Report any issue with the horses to the Head riding Instructor as soon as possible or to the horse schooler of the day.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour
