Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest is looking for a heavy equipment repairer with experience in heavy equipment and diesel trucks. The incumbent provides repair and maintenance services to a wide variety of heavy trucks, construction, weight handling and specialized equipment. This position is located within the Transportation Department, Maintenance Division of NAVFAC SW within the San Diego Metro area of responsibility, to include Camp Pendleton, CA.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Repair and maintenance work on various types of heavy mobile equipment such as: graders, loaders, backhoes, crawlers, refuse removal, fire trucks, sweepers, weight handling equipment, semis, forklifts, etc.

· Basic troubleshooting, removing, adjusting, repairing or replacing defective components, and complex operating mechanisms such as engines, transmissions, drive lines, ignition, emission, injection, and hydraulic power systems.

· Read and interpret instructions, standards, job orders, drawings, and blueprints to determine the overall inspection needs and quality checkpoints for heavy mobile equipment repair work.

· Use hand tools (e.g. screw drivers, pliers, wrenches, files, hacksaws, hammers), when executing maintenance on heavy equipment.

· Troubleshooting electrical systems on heavy mobile equipment using gauges and diagnostic equipment to verify repairs are completed.

· Determine malfunctions, best repair methods, and repair or modify faulty components in various sub-systems.

Must have experience in:

  • Basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic principles as applied to heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting, removing, repairing, adjusting and installing components in sub-systems such as engine ignition, fuel injection, emissions, timing, brakes and others of similar complexity.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, blueprints parts and maintenance manuals and specifications.
  • Skilled in the use of tools and equipment used in the mechanical trade to include hand tools, precision tools, computer systems diagnostics, engine analyzers and dynamometers.

Must have experience in:

  • Minimum of 5+ years Heavy Equipment Mechanic experience preferred
  • May be required to attain a forklift license to operate forklifts up to 15,000 pounds
