Job Description
The Health Information Management Service (HIMS) Tech
is instrumental in assisting clinical staff with various requests essential to providing quality patient care. This position is responsible for the maintenance and preservation of confidential medical records. The HIMS Tech performs a variety of important duties such as: safeguarding the integrity of the electronic medical record (EMR), scanning documents, providing prompt customer service to hospital clinicians, and the timely distribution of medical records upon request, as well as assisting the HIMS Supervisor with various other projects. Patient records must be maintained in compliance with established hospital policies and procedures, corporate policies, as well as state, federal and other regulatory agency requirements. A basic understanding of Excel is beneficial in order to maintain various logs.

Qualifications
License or Certification
:

• Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred

Training and Years of Experience
:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Graduate of accredited Medical Record Technology College or vocational school preferred
• Minimum three years of hospital HIMS experience preferred in lieu of certification
• Knowledge of medical terminology required
• One year data entry experience preferred

Machines and Equipment Used
:

• General office equipment such as telephone, copy machine, fax machine, calculator, computer, scanner

Physical Requirements
:

• Good visual acuity and ability to communicate
• Ability to lift, lower, push, pull and retrieve objects weighing a minimum of 30 pounds

• Maintains current licensure and/or certifications, if applicable

:

• Ability to speak, read, write, and communicate effectively
