General Summary

Generally, graduate teaching assistants are assigned to two faculty members and tasked with assisting them teaching related tasks. The nature of the assistance varies by faculty member and can involve a variety of activities such as:
1. Library work
2. Assist faculty member with teaching-related tasks
3. Data gathering/ analysis
4. Meet with and/or tutor students, hold office hours
5. Assisting faculty with the administration and grading of undergraduate class assignments
6. Helping supervise student testing
7. Assist with department course evaluations

Required Qualifications

1. Must be enrolled as a degree seeking graduate student at Illinois State University in the Criminal Justice Sciences Department
2. Minimum GPA of 3.0 is required
3. Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or another social science is required
4. Eligible for appointment as per the requirements in the Graduate Assistant Handbook which can be found at http://hr.illinoisstate.edu/downloads/GA_Handbook.pdf


Desired Qualifications

Experience with SPSS is preferred.

Illinois State University student employees are restricted to no more than 28 hours per week of on-campus employment for all positions held. International students are restricted by their visa status to no more than 20 hours per week of on-campus employment when the university is in session but may work up to 28 hours per week when the university is not in session. Please contact the Office of International Student and Scholar Services for guidance on visa restrictions on work hours. The University cannot grant exceptions to visa status rules/laws.
