POSITION SUMMARY:
As a Field Support Lead the incumbent will work under the direction of the Director Regional Operations to ensure that objectives related to quality, safety, production, and financial performance are met in a timely and consistent manner. This position will work closely with the Supervisors and hourly employees to focus on continuous improvement in our safety, quality, training, productivity, work processes across the UTLX on-site locations. The Field Support Lead will provide support to the Director Regional Operations to standardize processes and improve results at the UTLX on-site locations. The incumbent must be self-motivated with a positive attitude to help develop the skills and knowledge of the workforce.
The Field Support Lead will work remotely and travel approximately 75% of the time to the UTLX on-site locations. The following UTLX site locations will be included in the travel requirements;
Midwest Region Sites:
Morris, IL - Decatur, IL - Robinson, IL - Whiting, IN - Clinton, IA - Calvert City, KY - Ludington, MI - Toledo, OH - Indian Orchard, MA
Southeast Region Sites:
Belle Chasse, LA - Lake Charles, LA - Plaquemine, LA - Westlake, LA - Taft, LA - Mobile, AL - Columbus, MS - Yazoo City, MS - Pace, FL
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Quality – Under the direction of the Director Regional Operations and in conjunction with the QA Manager – Field Services the incumbent will work to ensure that all employees and customer sites are in full compliance with the UTLX, AAR, FRA and customer requirements for quality. This will involve assisting or conducting internal quality audits at assigned locations. Ongoing training of employees to the UTLX quality program and AAR/FRA regulations will be conducted as required.
- Safety – Under the direction of the Director Regional Operations and in conjunction with the Safety Manager - Field Services, the incumbent will work to ensure that front line supervisors and hourly employees are in full compliance with UTLX's Health and Safety program and procedures. In addition, this position will provide on-going safety training and mentoring to ensure that employees work safely and that a “safety first” culture is developed.
- Productivity & Labor Efficiency – Incumbent will provide coverage as required for the Site Supervisors during times of absence (vacation or illness) to ensure that production schedules are maintained during Supervisors absence. Will work with the Director of Operations and Site Supervisors to identify opportunities to improve productivity at each of the UTLX locations. Key focus will be to ensure that each location has the proper resources including manpower, material, and equipment available for sites to meet production and financial targets. Will standardize work and work documentation processes across the UTLX sites.
- Maintenance – Identify potential maintenance problems and eliminate by preventative maintenance. Assure adequate repair parts inventory to minimize maintenance related downtime. Provide instruction to front line supervisors in proper operational methods required to minimize downtime to equipment failure.
- Support Director Regional Operations in developing and maintaining customer relationships through customer meetings and site visits as required.
- Special Projects – Performs various special projects as directed by the Director Regional Operations to ensure the efficient operations of all locations (e.g. deal with internal and external customers to ensure knowledge of requirements on new and upcoming car maintenance projects to ensure expectations are met.)
- Other duties as assigned
SKILLS/SPECIFICATIONS:
- Strong understanding of railcar / tank car inspection, repair billing, regulatory requirements, and repair processes.
- Knowledge and understanding of UTLX’s Safety and Quality program requirements.
- Ability to effectively communicate with both hourly and salaried employees to ensure that safety, quality, and production requirements are clearly understood and met.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong focus on continuous improvement.
- Ability to work in both independently and in a team environment.
- Excellent understanding and ability to tailor the training to meet the needs of the learner.
- Effectively create and lead “train the trainer” initiatives.
- Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of High School GED required.
- Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience in an industrial setting required.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in railcar inspection and repair in either a shop or field environment required.
- Experience within the railroad industry or manufacturing is an asset.
