General Information
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher to work part-time with our Facilities Management employees at James Madison University. We seek a candidate who possesses a passion for teaching and who has the skill to create engaging and effective lesson plans to help our employees improve their English language skills.
This is a part-time position that requires availability during late afternoon into the early evening to assist employees departing the early shift and those beginning the late work shift (approximately 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday.) Flexible hours would be acceptable for preparation time. Part-time “Wage” employee work hours must not exceed 29 hours per week on average. The position may require some flexibility in scheduling to accommodate the needs of the students. The teacher will work in a classroom setting on campus and will have access to all necessary office resources including a copier, printer, computer and projector.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach English fundamental language skills to housekeeping, groundskeeping and other Facilities Management employees in a classroom setting
- Create and deliver effective lesson plans that cater to the specific needs and abilities of our primarily Spanish speaking employees who want to improve their English language skills
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to help students improve
- Encourage and motivate students to actively participate in class
- Create a safe, welcoming, and respectful learning environment for all students
- Collaborate with other staff to ensure a cohesive and effective learning experience
- A proven ability to create engaging and effective lesson plans
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- A certificate or bachelor’s degree in a related discipline or the equivalent based on previous work experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching ESL to adult learners
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Patience, flexibility, and a passion for teaching
- Knowledge of different teaching methodologies and techniques
- Ability to work collaboratively with others
Preferred Qualifications:
- Some knowledge of basic Spanish
- TESOL or TEFL certification
- Experience teaching adult learners from diverse cultural backgrounds
- Experience teaching in a university or educational institution

The report includes statistics for the most recent three-year period of reported crimes that have occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by JMU or its affiliates; and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.
The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes campus housing fire statistics for the most recent three-year period, a description of each on-campus student housing facility fire safety system, the number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year, policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking, and open flames in student housing; and procedures for student housing evacuation in the event of fire along with other fire safety information.
