As a business, we understand the importance of investing in the responsible management of energy. The Energy Operations Specialist will support the Energy Manager as we further enhance our energy management strategy. This role is critical in researching, submitting, and keeping track of the incentives for capital programs. You will be responsible for working with external vendors, contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders to assist in managing energy consumption and cost across the business.
The Energy Operations Specialist is part of the larger Store Development & Construction team at Barnes & Noble. In this role you will work closely with Facilities Management, Construction, and Real Estate Development. You will communicate with multiple levels of company leadership and synthesize what is most important to share amongst key stakeholders. The role will be varied, including working with online systems to Energy Management System (EMS) control, working on large spreadsheet databases to perform analysis, and working with stakeholders to administer the utility billing process.
To be successful in this role, you will have the ability to multitask, while prioritizing what is critical. You will possess good interpersonal and communications skills. You enjoy working with numbers and have good analytical skills.
- Drive the energy efficiency rebate program from capex programs initiated by facilities and real estate.
- Work with online Energy Management Systems (EMS) supporting stores with their HVAC and lighting use and maintain existing energy saving programs.
- Work with energy consultants to manage utility billing for all stores and offices, maintain the utility billing record, and identify ways to minimize energy spend.
- Setup utility accounts for new and closing store locations.
- Maintain energy reporting to provide regular performance measurement to the business.
- Support analysis of energy consumption data to identify opportunities for savings.
- Support a wide range of new projects introduced to save energy costs, including utility cost optimization, behavior change, and energy efficiency.
- The candidate must demonstrate high learning agility, be technically organized, and desire to develop skills and knowledge in a growing and complex area.
- Effectively communicate with a range of stakeholders including vendors, contractors, consultants, landlords, and internal business partners.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, while working in a high-volume capacity.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite, specifically Word, Power Point, Excel, and Outlook
- A Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- A background in energy management is desirable.
An employee in this position can expect an annual starting rate between $60,000 and $70,000, depending on experience, seniority, geographic locations, and other factors permitted by law.
