Adventureland Park - Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Provides quality patient care and emergency medical treatment to individuals of all ages in the pre-hospital setting as per scope of practice State law, and by Medical Director approved protocols.
• Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls to provide efficient and immediate care to critically ill and injured persons. Determines the nature of the illness or injury and makes treatment decisions based on appropriate protocols, techniques, resources, and equipment available to treat the illness or injury.
• Reports, observations, and medical care of the patient verbally and in writing. Provides accurate documentation in patient care reports promptly, of all emergency medical treatments provided by established documentation guidelines and quality standards.
• Ensures EMS call and treatment documentation is sent to the appropriate receiving hospital/medical facility.
• Communicate with other healthcare team members to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.
• Assists with routine maintenance, inventory, cleanliness, and readiness of First Aid Office; inspects other equipment for functionality and keeps the office organized. Reports any damage, problems, or malfunctions on the proper forms daily and ensures the supervisor is notified of any issues.
• Maintains a safe, clean and well stocked environment for patients.
• Understands and complies with safety and infection control procedures.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Education: A minimum of a high School diploma, GED, or equivalent

Languages: English

Certification Requirements: Current EMT Certification/License in Iowa (NREMT Certification preferred) and current CPR Certification

Experience: 1 year of experience in an emergency care setting preferred.

Skills:

• Maintains thorough knowledge of current EMT standards of care, equipment use, and function.
• Knowledge of rescue and emergency medical principles, practices, and techniques.
• Knowledge of the hazards and risks of bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
• Ability to handle confidential information sensitively.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to read and write the English language.
• Accurate mathematical skills.
• Skill in the safe operation of motor vehicles.
• Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance and working hours.
• Ability to maintain composure in a high-stress work environment to respond appropriately to upset individuals.
• Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively to determine safe and proper courses of action; ability to problem-solve and take initiative.
• Ability to perform invasive advanced medical procedures, per level of certification, in stressful situations.
• Sound judgment and decision-making abilities.
• Excellent interpersonal communications skills.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to file reports using a computer and EMS software.
