VCA Animal Specialty & Emergency Center is a high volume, AAHA accredited, referral and critical care hospital located in West Los Angeles. We are currently we are looking for experienced ECC and ICU Technicians to join our team.

As one of LA's leading 24-hour specialty animal care centers for over 30 years now, here at ASEC we are always looking for the next best addition to our Emergency & Critical Care Team. We have six specialties and roughly 200 staff members on our team, and as a teaching hospital we host externs, interns, and residents every year. We strive to maintain our positive and supportive learning environment, and keep our medicine and techniques ahead of the curve.
Our ECC department is equipped to provide 24/7 care to incoming critical and non-critical emergencies, transfers from our referring veterinarians, and hospitalized patients from our own specialty services.
ECC Technician:
- Minimum 3 years experience in veterinary medicine.
- Responsibilities include providing nursing care to both our stable and critical hospitalized patients, triaging and stabilizing incoming emergencies, providing treatment to our outpatients, assisting with basic anesthetic procedures, and maintaining a clean and stocked treatment area.
- General knowledge of veterinary medicine
- Small animal restraint and handling
- Both basic and advanced veterinary nursing care
- Medication administration - all routes
- Phlebotomy and IV catheterization
- Lab sample handling
- Anesthesia prep and monitoring
- Basic radiography
- Triage and stabilization of a variety of emergency cases
ICU Technician:
- Minimum of 5 years of veterinary experience, 2 years specifically in emergency medicine.
- Responsibilities include providing nursing care to our most critical hospitalized patients, and practicing advanced veterinary nursing skills.
- Possess an advanced knowledge of veterinary emergency and critical care
- Critical anesthesia monitoring skills
- Experience with critical case management
- Nasogastric tube placement
- Urinary catheter placement (male and female)
- Central line placement
- Single and double lumen PICC lines
- Triple lumen jugular catheters
- Arterial puncture for arterial blood gas analysis
- Arterial catheter placement
- Thoracic auscultation
- Perfusion analysis of patients
- Basic electrolyte and blood gas analysis
- CPR
- Nursing care of patients with tracheostomies
- Nursing care of patients with chest tubes and abdominal drains
- Nursing care of patients with feeding tubes and administering nutrition through a feeding tube
- Calculating CRIs (analgesics, inotropes, vasopressors, electrolytes, etc)
General Info:
- Both full-time and part-time schedule options are available.
- Full-time employees work ā4 x 10sā.
- Part-time employees work 8-hour shifts.
- Graveyard shifts are also paid an additional overnight differential.

For Hourly Associates:
VCA Animal Hospitals offers a competitive compensation and benefits package, including Medical/Dental/Vision insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, pet care discounts, paid vacation, holidays and sick days, health and well-being programs that provide resources and training. Compensation is negotiable based on education, experience, and other relevant credentials. The pay range for this position is $23 to $35 per hour.
