Job Responsibilities:
- Schedules personnel to ensure 24-hour coverage at shelter
- Responsible for the administration of all programs and services administered in Elkhart, IN. including shelter, transitional housing and self-sufficiency.
- Establishes and maintains an effective shelter staff by recruiting, hiring, training, evaluating staff.
- Communicates shelter activities, needs and plans with other YWCA programs and with CEO.
- Ensures all documentation needed for grant billings is completed.
- Upholds grant and accreditations policy standards, ethics and guidelines
- Attends peer and staff meetings and promote teamwork and cooperation with colleagues
- Assists in the scheduling, promotion and participation of community awareness events and establish linkages with community organizations in Elkhart.
- Maintains Communication Log to ensure all shelter staff members are updated about client related matters during shift-change.
- Provides coverage on crisis desk as necessary and maintains crisis call sheet documentation.
- Maintains shelter census information and room assignments.
- Conducts new client orientation
- Meets individually with clients regarding house needs
- Meets with clients leaving services
- Provides back up for crisis call line
- Helps clients create safety plans
- Assists / accompanies clients as necessary with court, housing, or other appointments.
- Meets with clients to investigate grievances, infractions and/or incidents
- Meets with clients when accident/ injury report is submitted
- Works with Director of Food Service to plan menus for shelter residents and assists in identifying food and supply needs for shelter.
- Communicates shelter activities, needs and plans with other YWCA programs and with President/CEO.
- Participates in planning and preparation for ICADV Peer Review.
- Participates in data collection and analysis.
- Attends staffing of cases and promotes teamwork and cooperation with colleagues
- Assists in establishing linkages with community organizations for the purpose of referrals and collaboration.
- Identifies shelter maintenance needs and communicates these to the Facilities Administrator.
- Works with the Facilities Administrator to ensure safety drills are conducted at Elkhart County Safe Haven
- Participates in Safety Committee.
- Maintains cell phone accessibility to stay in contact with the organization supervising staff
- Completes other duties as requested
Experience and Skills:
4. Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree or five years of professional experience in the field.
Knowledge of Domestic Violence issues, public speaking skills, strong verbal and written communication skills are needed. Must be sensitive to issues of cultural diversity.
