Job Summary:
How would you like to sink your teeth into a meaty long-form story at an award-winning news magazine like 20/20? Are you ready for an action-packed experience?
The bookers at 20/20 collaborate closely to ensure that all the pieces are in place for a successful hour-long show. You would be expected to focus on what matters most – finding and delivering in-depth news stories, interviews, and intriguing investigative reports.
This position currently reports to the Senior Editorial Producer.
Responsibilities
You would join a small, close-knit team of bookers that make it their mission to bring stories that other networks wish they had landed first.
Every single day as an Editorial Producer is different! On any one day you might:
- Research news and online chatter to find stories that need a bigger voice (yours!)
- Develop and book hour-long stories that will keep viewers hooked
- Meet with a contact to discuss a new story lead
- Help the people you book understand the process so the full depth of the story comes out
- Travel to the story, gathering elements and footage as you go
- Deliver headlines as needed
- Collaborate with other ABC news departments for joint projects or special features
- Connect with your mentor to bounce ideas
- Brainstorm different story angles with your team
- Attend a screening of a movie or TV show
Basic Qualifications
- 4 years of successful booking experience
- Insatiable curiosity - you feel compelled to dig deeper to find the truth
- Perseverance - you’re not afraid to go the circuitous route for the right story
- Tenacity to pitch the stories you believe in
- Energy to juggle multiple stories at once
- The ability to travel frequently
- Experience performing under pressure - - think breaking news-type situations
- A knack for online writing
- The people skills to book hard-to-get interviews
Additional Qualifications
- Experienced in shooting and editing
- Empathetic - a pro at navigating difficult situations with subjects
- A law buff - you understand courts and how to cover big trials
- Able to develop relationships quickly and easily
Required Education
- Bachelor’s of Arts or equivalent experience
The hiring range for this position in New York is $109,300 to $150,360 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
