Position Purpose

The Shipping and Receiving Driver's main responsibility is to safely transport cargo from one location to another, ensuring goods are well-secured during transit and delivered to customers in a timely manner. They must follow traffic laws and correctly navigate themselves to the correct destination. This person must have a strong background in driving safety with numerous types of vehicles, including a Class C license. This person would need to obtain and hold a medical card for commercial driving. This position will assist with various dock-related activities when not driving.

Essential Responsibilities/Accountabilities

• Transport items to and from destination on time, in a safe manner, ensuring items are properly secured
• Verify that appropriate items are picked up and/or delivered to the correct physical location
• Ensure complete daily check on vehicle and equipment before using; immediately report any concerns
• Fulfill administrative tasks, such as paperwork and records completion (e.g gas receipts, vehicle maintenance)
• Perform tasks to company standards to efficiently and effectively ensure meet department goals
• Take initiative to improve ways work is completed and find solutions to improve productivity
• Communicate with management
• Always interact with clients and vendors professionally
• Immediately report any vehicle accidents or incidents to supervisor
• Manage priorities as they change throughout the shift
• Keep a clean, organized, and safe work area, including tools, equipment, and vehicles
• Assist with shipping and receiving and general dock activities when not driving
• Ensure TAIT's 5 standards of care are coordinated into daily activities: Safety, Quality, Team, Schedule, and Cost
• Take ownership for decisions, actions, performance, and behavior
• Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures; specific driving policy for this role
• Attend meetings, seminars, and training sessions as required
• Perform assigned duties according to the policies and expectations prescribed by the company

Minimum Qualifications

To perform the essential responsibilities, individuals must have the following level of education and experience, or equivalent combination. Additionally, the following certifications, knowledge, skills, or physical requirements are necessary for the position.

• 1-3 years' experience driving vehicles such as a box truck, flatbed truck, or van; CDL not required
• 3 years of clean motor vehicle driving record
• Hold DOT medical card, or willing to obtain
• Forklift certification required, will train as needed
• Knowledge of Epicor, Slack, and/or Box a plus
• Communication skills which include, but are not limited to, written and oral communication, active listening, nonverbal communication
• Time management skills
• Teamwork through development of skills to collaborate with others to achieve departmental goals
• Dependability, responsibility, and consistency in job performance
• Willingness to learn and ask questions
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Flexibility with work schedule, including some holidays and alternate shifts are required; ability to work additional hours, beyond standard schedule, in any given week as needed

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is required to frequently walk, bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat, stoop, and kneel each day. Specific requirements are:

• Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
• Must be able to sit for extended periods of time while driving
• Must be able to lift or move 50 lbs.
• Must be able to carry 50 lbs.
• Must be able to pull or push 50 lbs.
• Must be able to reach overhead
• Must be able to work in small, sometimes awkward spaces and positions

Work conditions of the role are:

• Work conditions may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements such as dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises
• Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks which require following basic safety precautions, including weather conditions for truck loading, and unloading
• Must be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work within or visit areas where required. This includes, safety glasses, reflective vest, ear plugs, safety toe shoes, and other PPE as required by the location, including pickup or delivery locations
• Pickup/delivery locations are generally within a three-hour driving distance from the Lititz, PA area. These are day trips, no overnight trips required
