Job description
The Donation Processing Lead works at the heart of the Habitat for Humanity ReStore operation, managing and processing donated items that are then sold to the general public to raise funds in support of Habitat’s local affordable housing ministry. Working together as a team, our ReStore employees create the financial base from which we build homes, communities, and hope.
Core tasks:
- Serve as the key point of contact with the organization’s donors as they drop off items.
- Provide accurate donation receipts to donors for tax purposes.
- Manage donations brought to the store by our donation pickup team.
- Assist in loading & unloading trucks.
- Lead in sorting all donations for acceptable items, testing electronic items, properly cleaning donations for the sales floor.
- Learn and apply the organization’s strict merchandising standards in order to properly assist sales staff in merchandizing the store.
- Actively drives sales by providing outstanding customer service, especially when helping customers load purchased items into their vehicles.
- Enthusiastically support and maintain Habitat’s values and culture.
- Assist the Store Manager with daily departmental operations to ensure the ReStore meets sales goals and objectives.
- Take primary responsibility for maintaining a safe and healthy working environment in the donation processing areas, and adhere to established processing and safety systems.
- Complete other related tasks as assigned.

- Ability to self-start and maintain flow of multiple donations per day.
- Great customer service skills.
- Safely lift/move large items using safe lifting and moving techniques (ability to safely lift 30 to 50 lbs repeatedly per day a must).
- The ability to answer questions about and effectively communicate our mission to the public.
- Effective retail merchandising techniques.
- Consistent attention to processing areas to ensure clean and orderly work spaces.
- A positive and respectful attitude when interacting with employees, customers, donors, volunteers, and the public.
- An ability to positively engage and motivate others.
The ideal candidate must be able to:
- Stand and walk on concrete flooring for prolonged periods.
- Bend, lift, reach, push, and pull materials.
- Walk and climb on uneven surfaces, ladders, and stairs.
- Label, sort, and stock donated items.
- Individually safely lift up to 50 lbs and team-lift heavier items.
- Tolerate seasonal temperature extremes.
- Work a Tuesday-Saturday schedule.
