Loudoun County's Department of General Services is seeking qualified applicants for our Disposal Operations Crew Chief vacancy within the Waste Management Division, working at the Loudoun County Solid Waste Management Facility located in Leesburg, Virginia.

The ideal candidate will be able to

• Supervise a team of approximately 10 staff.
• Develop and implement work schedules for the disposal operations crew.
• Manage compliance with the facility solid waste permit, operational grading plans, and County policies.
• Develop and implement plans to ensure operations are conducted in accordance with VSWMRs, DEQ permit, and County policies.
• Ensure that grading and fill activities are completed in accordance with approved grading plans utilizing electronic GPS survey equipment.
• Operate truck scales according to the Scalehouse Manual.
• Supervise snow removal efforts.
• Maintain records and reports.
• Conduct waste surveillance.
• Operate heavy equipment to process separate, load, and haul materials, erosion, and sediment control.
• Be responsible for all work performed by the crew under the incumbents Facility Operator's license.
• Encourage safe work practices.

This "working supervisor" will provide general supervision to the Disposal Operations Crew, including multiple heavy equipment operators and traffic control flaggers. The Disposal Operations Crew Chief will provide backup coverage for other facility positions such as Maintenance Operations Crew Chief, Scale Operator, Service Manager, and/or Heavy Equipment Operator, and may operate snow removal equipment.

Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to high school diploma and four (4) years of directly related experience that includes at least two (2) years of supervisory experience.

Prefer course work in applied technology, equipment operation, and maintenance, agriculture, and/or facilities management.

Valid driver's license is required. Requires a valid, current Virginia Waste Management Facility Operator's License (Class II), or able to obtain within 12 months of hire. A valid Class "A" or "B" Commercial Driver's license (CDL) is preferred.

Must be able to work Mon-Fri (7am-5pm) and rotating Saturdays (as needed on a scheduled OT basis). Work is performed in an industrial environment, primarily outdoors, during all weather conditions. Subject to recall or being held beyond scheduled workday; must be available to respond to County emergencies (24/7) as directed in accordance with Department policy and written or verbal directive. This position is considered "essential."

Successful candidate will undergo criminal, credit, and DMV record background checks. Pre-employment drug and alcohol screening required for CDL holders. The CDL component must comply with the Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Program as outlined by Loudoun County's Alcohol & Controlled Substance Testing Policy for Transportation Employees.
