Scope of Job
To manage, plan, and direct the daily operations of the professional education and workforce development center. Responsible for identifying, evaluating, and implementing effective professional education programs and workforce development initiatives in collaboration with regional internal and external stakeholders in alignment with the University’s vision for continuing and professional education.

Description of Duties
  • Plans, directs, and manages the daily operations of the assigned centers and programs.
  • Achieves established programmatic performance benchmarks and utilizes effective methods for program sustainability, growth, and status.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates short and long-range plans to facilitate the growth of entrepreneurial, professional, and workforce development programs built on a variety of delivery modalities.
  • Extends the university’s academic reputation and mission through the development and expansion of credit-based and non-credit professional education programs utilizing online, blended, and other training modalities.
  • Identifies, evaluates, and develops potential partnerships with corporations, school districts, agencies, nonprofit organizations, and other entities to grow a pipeline of new educational programming and opportunities for students.
  • Collaborates with industry experts and leaders, College stakeholders, and the global community to develop creative and distinctive workforce development and professional education programs, including industry specific graduate certificate programs.
  • Develops new creative initiatives to support graduate student success and career opportunities by leveraging services of the Graduate College, Research & Innovation, Office of Sustainability, and coordinating with other stakeholders, such as Career Center, Alumni Relations, and the Office of Government and Community Relations.
  • Formulates and manages budgets, including the projection of revenue and costs, to ensure that implemented programming meets expected outcomes.
  • Utilizes current market research on new market opportunities, industry needs, competition, and demand from non-traditional students to develop new professional education and workforce development programs.
  • Coordinates closely with University Marketing and Communications to develop and implement a comprehensive marketing plan to increase enrollment and revenue from professional and workforce development programs.
  • Integrates evidence-based evaluation practices for continuous quality improvement.
  • Hires and develops key staff to ensure efficient and effective program operation.
  • Serves on external committees, boards, and internal college-level and campus-level committees as needed, and creatively pursues opportunities for collaborations and partnerships.
  • Promotes the use of online instructional strategies and technologies to support adult learners and improve workplace performance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

General supervision from assigned supervisor.

Direct supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Education or related field from an accredited university.

Preferred Education
Master’s Degree in Business, Education or related field from an accredited university.

Licenses/Certifications
None.

Required Experience
Five (5) years of closely related experience, including a track record of developing and implementing learning and development and/or professional, continuing education, or workforce/economic development programs. Knowledge of workplace learning strategies and industry practices related to adult learning, performance improvement, instructional design, training delivery, learning technologies, and evaluation. Working knowledge of workforce and economic development and career counseling for adult learners. Experience formulating and overseeing program budgets.

Use of standard office equipment. Knowledge of online learning technologies as they support curriculum and instruction.

Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; some travel, evening and/or weekend work is required. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Other
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of diverse audiences. Strong organizational skills with an ability to prioritize multiple activities and tasks simultaneously. May be required to work evening and/or weekends. Travel across the Rio Grande Valley region is required.
