Title: Director of Art Center Programs
Reports to: Chief Program Officer
Department: Art Center Program
Location: 420 Hyde Park Blvd., Inglewood, CA 90302 (primary office location)
FLSA Status: Exempt/D
Program Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
Supervisory Responsibility: Program Supervisors and Gallery and Event Supervisor

Position Summary

Under limited supervision, responsible for the overall design, management, and administration of the ECF Art Center Programs.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • In consultation with Chief Programs Officer, Human Resources, handle personnel administration, including recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, development and evaluation of staff in compliance with established ECF Policies and Procedures and current statues and regulations by local regional centers and Department of Developmental Services.
  • Participate in the development of the art centers budgets and assist in maintaining cost controls with respect to salaries, staff/artist ratios, enrollment of artists, supplies, equipment and space, the establishment of rates for artwork. Promote conservation of organizational resources. Periodically review and improve upon Art Center’s operating procedures.
  • Maintain open communication with ACP staff, ECF administration personnel, regional centers, care providers, etc., of projects, collaborations and developments in the ECF Art Centers. Work with local art agencies and institutions to create more visibility of ECF Artists and ECF Art Centers among the greater art community.
  • Establish collaborative relationships, maintain open communication and develop network of professional contacts, external relations for development of ECF Art Centers. Work with staff, administration, regional centers, care provides, etc., to achieve objectives. Market ECF Artists work and ECF Art Centers for revenue generating opportunities. Take leadership in organizing art exhibits and website development for ECF artists.
  • Ensure a safe working and learning environment for staff and artists. Ensure staff are trained in safe product use, ensure Material Safety Data Sheets are available and used as required, and that appropriate safety precautions are used at all times. Respond to reports or concerns of safety hazards in accordance with ECF’s Injury Prevention Program in a timely manner.
  • Develop, in conjunction with the Chief Programs Officer and program supervisors, effective and meaningful opportunities focusing on person centered community integration that provides client choice, self determination and integrated employment opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with all referral sources (artists, program participants and their agencies). Take steps to maximize the utilization of the Art Center Programs, site-based and community-based day programming. Make efforts to address and support the cultural and linguistically diverse population of participating artists.

Other Duties

  • Comply with ECF’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program. Ensure safe use and operation of tools and/or equipment.
  • Comply with ECF policies and procedures, including mandated reporting requirements.
  • Observe regular, on-site work hours.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education/Licenses/Certifications: Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, or Fine Arts.

Experience: Three years in Human Services (experience with developmentally disabled population preferred) with one year in a supervisory or management capacity with responsibility for preparing and administering budgets. One year as a working artist or in an art environment.

Knowledge/Abilities/Skills:
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to deal appropriately with sensitive and confidential information.
  • Outstanding organizational, time management, and planning skills with the ability to simultaneously work on multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Represent ECF in a professional manner using tact and diplomacy at all times.
  • Strong business acumen with a high level of initiative.
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Word, MS Office, and EXCEL.
  • Basic math skills to prepare budgets and perform simple calculations.
  • Knowledge of Person Centered Approaches and Practices.

Requirements

  • Valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, evidence of car insurance, and insurable driving record.
  • Pass a DOJ background investigation.
  • Provide evidence of a negative TB test initially and every three years thereafter.
  • Obtain and maintain NCI, First Aid and CPR certification.

  • Ability to move items, with assistance that may be bulky and weigh up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment


This is a program for adults who have varying degrees of learning, behavioral, emotional, and developmental disabilities. Employee may encounter artists/consumers who are in crisis, exhibiting emotional/psychological distress or behaving in an aggressive manner. Work will primarily be performed inside at various ECF sites; 20% of time will be spent traveling. Exposure to odors from acrylic paints, oil base paints, and cleaning and mixing solutions; fine debris from ceramics; mild noise from the kiln and from the instructors and artists interacting in an open space. Environment may include frequent interruptions, loud noise, varying indoor temperature, and drafts. Exposure to changes in temperature and weather conditions when travelling to art exhibits, other ECF sites, etc.
