Job Summary


The Director of Production Planning leads a team of Production Planners to drive the improvement through every phase of supply chain between forecasting/production planning and vendor production. They will lead the team to plan the purchase orders, place the orders with our Asian vendors, oversee the vendors’ production, mitigate any vendor challenges, oversee the logistics, and maintain our ERP systems. Internally they liaison with sales and merchandising departments with forecasting, calendars and meeting our customers’ expectations.


The position requires a fast-paced individual who can work within deadlines with a high level of attention to detail and a sense of urgency while also mentoring the department. It also requires an ability to challenge vendors, hold them accountable, and provide shared meaning and motivation to them at times. In many cases, processes will need to be developed or improved, and a strong problem-solving ability is a must.


Key Roles and Responsibilities


Forecasting & Planning

  • Understands the forecast process and can adjust and modify the master plan to reflect the current forecast.
  • Frequently collaborates with the Sales and Merchandising and maintains a unilateral line of communication in order to stay current on issues impacting the forecast, master plan and vendor supply chain.
  • Propose, execute, and monitor production and shipping timelines for seasonal and annual programs.
  • Identify/monitor areas for process improvement/ risk pertaining to inventory levels, sales strategy, and forecasting.
  • Mitigate delays to pre-production and production timelines partnering with our vendors to minimize shipping expenses while monitoring adherence to company best practices.
  • Escalate production issues to cross functional teams (Merchandising, Sales, and Product Integrity) to best assess impact to sourcing strategy and programs success.
  • Point of reference/coach for production planners to ensure company best practices measured through KPIs.
  • Understanding of PLM and ERP in uploading Item masters as well as maintaining item masters at our 3PL
  • Oversee all packing requirements from our customers are communicated and adhered to by our factories.

The ideal candidate:

  • Excellent planning capabilities with experience with managing teams
  • Understanding of purchasing rules, regulations, methods, forms, purchase orders and accounts payable processes preferred
  • Excellent organizational, prioritizing, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills with a strong sense of urgency. Analytical, detail oriented, accurate, timely with heavy attention to detail.
  • Self-starter and possess the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Willing to accept change, manage priorities, and provide the necessary and timely commitments to ensure company success.
  • Good interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with internal and external partners.
  • Proactive in identifying issues and implementing solutions.
  • Advanced computer skills including Excel, Outlook, Access, and ERP systems preferably JDE.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required (Operations degree preferred).
  • 7+ years’ experience with supply chain management, apparel, or accessories industry preferred.

  • Salary Range: $100,000-115,000
  • Status: Full, Time Exempt
  • Reports to: SVP of Operations and Supply Chain
