The City of Friendswood is currently accepting applications for a full-time Director of Information Technology. This position will establish, plans, and administers the overall policies and goals for the Information Technology Department. Analyzes the needs of different departments and determines ways to meet business objectives by modifying existing or developing new information processing systems. Provide information, direction and/or recommendations regarding network installations and configurations including television, intercom, telephone and wireless systems; resolving network operational issues; and providing technical support to City personnel.

Work Performed:

• Plans, organizes, and directs the functions of the Information Technology (IT) Department, including but not limited to, the City's WAN/LAN infrastructure, server systems, Helpdesk service operations, access control, audio/video systems, and telecommunication systems.
• Develops, implements, and supports innovative technology initiatives based on systems analyses to ensure compatibility with City's infrastructure. Align the Department's vision and strategy to meet the City's technology goals.
• Establishes City's IT policies, City Disaster Recovery Plan, technology standards and best use practices. Ensures compliance with technology industry information security standards by implementing security policies to safeguard resources.
• Formulates and implements strategic plans, including business requirements, project planning, organizing/negotiating the allocation of resources and recommend appropriate solutions. Develops, implements, and monitors long-term plans, goals and objectives focused on achieving the City's mission and City Council's priorities.
• Develops an annual business plan and operating budget for the department.
• Research trends, products, equipment, tests, etc. Researches and evaluate new technologies.
• Directs IT staff in the operation and maintenance of networks, hardware, software, and training of City staff.
• Recommends, supervises and coordinates the work of outside contractors engaged in technology projects.
• Manages application and data base servers.
• Assist with Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) audit and maintaining compliance.
• Assists with the selection and management of the City web site and intranet site.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited College or University in Information Technology Management, Computer Science, or a closely related field.Or a combination of experience and education.

• 1-3 years of supervisory experience
• 3-5 years of related experience in the operation and management of Windows and VM servers systems.
  

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Ability to speak effectively before groups, within and outside the organization; knowledge of security and confidentiality policies and measures.
