Washington University seeks an advancement professional for the position of Director of Advancement supporting the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts.The Sam Fox School Advancement team strives to advance the mission of Sam Fox School by creating a culture of philanthropy among alumni, students, faculty, parents, and friends. The Director will develop strategies to increase philanthropic support and will manage a portfolio of major gift prospects. In addition, the Director will provide management of members of the Sam Fox School Advancement team, as assigned by the Senior Director of Advancement, and works closely with other Advancement leaders as well as academic and administrative leaders in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts.
The Director Advancement reports to the Senior Director of Advancement.
Job Description
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and manage a portfolio of major gift and planned giving prospects. Develop and execute thoughtful, innovative, and individualized strategies for cultivating and soliciting high priority donors and prospects.
- Meet all development goals jointly set with the Senior Director of Advancement. Metrics will focus on meaningful contacts, qualifications, solicitations, dollars solicited, dollars raised, and number of gifts closed.
- Development work will focus on alumni, parents, friends, faculty, staff, corporations, and foundations. Engage prospects in both the St. Louis region and key cities across the United States.
- As assigned by the Senior Director of Advancement, supervise staff and programs in order to raise Annual, Leadership, and Major Gifts for the Sam Fox School. Set performance goals and provide mentorship, guidance, and regular feedback on performance to direct reports.
- Assist the Senior Director of Advancement in providing leadership and direction for overarching fundraising efforts, including campaigns, major gifts, leadership gifts, and annual gifts, special initiatives, special events, and endowment support. Work closely with the Senior Director of Advancement on the development of campaign preparation, strategy, and execution.
- Establish and maintain strong and effective working relationships with the major internal constituents of the Sam Fox School, as well as across the University. Develop a broad comprehension of Sam Fox School’s and Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum’s programs.
- Undertake special assignments as needed and perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree.
- Seven years of major gift, planned giving, annual fund, and capital campaign experience in a complex university environment.
- Supervisory and management skills.
- Demonstrated capacity to serve as a second-in-command.
- Honesty, integrity, and enthusiasm.
- Very strong work ethic supported by commitment and follow through.
- Ability to think strategically and analytically, and then implement effectively.
- Demonstrated passion for initiating meetings and developing relationships with prospects.
- General knowledge of (or willingness to become familiar with) the fields of art, design, and architecture, as well as museum fundraising.
- Deep appreciation for and the ability to articulate the mission and aspirations of the Sam Fox School and Washington University.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal constituents of the Sam Fox School and develop a broad understanding of the SFS’s teaching and research programs, and the Kemper Art Museum.
- Capacity to listen carefully, learn quickly, and work effectively.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, including demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with high-net-worth individuals.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across development offices, and to work with diverse constituencies.
- Comfortable working in an environment that emphasizes measurable fundraising goals.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum of five years of related experience.
Grade
G15Salary Range
$77,700.00 - $136,700.00 / Annually The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.Accommodation
