JOB SUMMARY
The HSE Director is responsible for planning, directing and implementing Health, Safety & Environmental programs to ensure a safe, healthy, compliant, and accident-free work environment by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors/managers
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Plans and implements HSE policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations
- Oversight for plans and implementation of programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for energetic materials, chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials
- Prepares studies and analyses of industrial or explosive accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies
- Coordinate the preparation for preparing for periodic internal and external audits (Health & Safety, Process Safety management, Insurance Company) and random environmental audits conducted by TDEC
- Oversight for inspection of organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented
- Leads the investigation of incidents and injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations
- Responsible for reporting HSE statistics to the corporate office on a monthly basis
- Oversees the administration of workers' compensation program, including working with the insurance carrier to reduce employee lost time
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Special projects and additional duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
Supervises safety & environmental managers.
Requirements:EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in HS&E, Engineering, Business or related field is required
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 10 years of Safety and Environmental experience in a manufacturing environment is required
SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge and understanding of Federal and State Safety and Environmental regulations and laws
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Demonstrated ability to direct and coordinate activities of others, to take decisive action appropriate to the situation and business plan
- Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Personnel development and performance management
- Conflict resolution
- Ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Excel
PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects, weighing up to 10 pounds occasionally and/or a negligible amount of weight frequently. Involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Use of computer. Some domestic and international travel required.
