ABOUT THE COMPANY:
Operation PAR, Inc. is a non-profit organization offering the full continuum of services for individuals with substance use and/or mental health disorders. PAR has been providing comprehensive behavioral health treatment in west Florida since 1970 through advocacy, education, clinical services, and research.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Entry-level client serving position with responsibility for screening and assessing juveniles brought to the Pinellas Juvenile Assessment Center. Provides screening of youth for DJJ, assists in determination of the assessment eligibility process and make recommendations to JAC assessors for assessment. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to; tracking the number of adolescents entering the Pinellas JAC, receiving and directing phone inquiries, screening adolescents using appropriate DJJ screening instrument and following Pinellas JAC policies and procedures ensuring the integrity and safety of clients and staff in a locked facility.
- Recognizes the issues related to criminally involved adolescents
- Recognizes the stages of adolescent development.
- Obtains necessary information from parents
- Observes client for signs of abuse and neglect
- Establishes rapport with adolescent
- Determines client’s thinking skills, fears and coping behaviors
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma, some college preferred
- One (1) year experience in treatment preferred
- Possesses a basic understanding of a variety of models and theories of addiction and other problems related to adolescent substance abuse
- Possesses a basic understanding of the behavioral, psychological, physical health and social effects of psychoactive substances on adolescents.
- Possesses a basic understanding of the philosophies, practices, policies, outcomes of the most general accepted models of treatment, recovery, relapse prevention, and continuing care for addiction and other substance abuse related problems.
- Understands a variety of helping strategies for reducing the negative affects of substance use, abuse and dependence.
- Understands the addiction professionals obligations to adhere to ethical and behavioral standards of conduct in the helping relationship.
- Understands and applies setting-specific policies and procedures for handling crisis or dangerous situations, including safety measures for clients and staff.
Special Requirements:
- Current Florida driver's license (D class)
- Current CPR and First Aid Certification
- Must pass DJJ background and fingerprinting checks
- HIV/AIDS training required every two years
