Description

Performs a variety of customer service and clerical support functions in a busy Environmental Health Department office. May resolve complicated issues involving customer service and researching governing policies, procedures or laws to respond to clients or visitors. Incumbent must be able to multi-task and work efficiently in a fast paced environment be proficient with computers and a variety of software programs, appropriately handle customer service issues and manage customer demands.

All Coastal Health District, County Health Department employees are deemed essential employees in the event of an emergency. As such, you may be called on to participate in an event not limited to but including, staffing a shelter, a Specimen Point of Collection Site (SPOC) and/or Point of Dispensing site (POD). When you are called on to participate, you are expected and it will be a part of your job requirement to participate, whether the emergency occurs during or outside regular work hours.

Job Responsibilities

1. Provides helpful, efficient, customer service to each customer in a respectful and compassionate manner

2. Interviews customers to obtain information according to program policies/procedures and provides confidentiality at all times

3. Enters data quickly, accurately and efficiently with minimal errors.

4. Processes customer's needs and requests according to policy

5. Schedules appointments/meetings

6. Initiates, maintains and updates files.

7. Attends staff meetings and training necessary to perform job effectively.

8. Provides other customer service and clerical support duties to department as necessary

9. Answers main phone line for Environmental Health and greets customers to receive payments and plans.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED AND Six months of experience handling customer's questions, complaints and/or providing information.
Preferred Qualifications:
Background in Science and/or Public Health field. One or more years of experience in a clerical or office assistant role. Able to work in a fast paced environment and have strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and basic data entry. Associates degree desired.
