Position Summary
Directly supervise the Corporate Assistant Controller(s), Payroll Manager and General Accounting (AP) Manager, providing support and leadership for Corporate Accounting, Payroll and Accounts Payable.
Provide financial expertise to Presidents, CFO's, Administrators and staff of subsidiary corporations, both consolidated and non-consolidated entities.
Coordinate the development and improvement of financial statements and performance reports with the Presidents and Administrators of subsidiary corporations, Senior Vice President of Financial Services, Vice President of Finance and System Controller, Vice President of Financial Services Operations (Community Hospitals) and the Chief Financial Officer.
Present financial statements and other financial information to subsidiary Boards of Directors and management to effectively communicate monthly and quarterly financial results and annual budget presentations.
Coordinate and provide insight into the annual preparation of the subsidiary corporations' budgets.
Assist in building long-term (5 year) financial plan, by providing input on Corporate and subsidiary financial performance and assisting in input and review for other entities.
Serve as liaison to and coordinate the various financial information needs with the subsidiary corporations, information systems, financial administrators and Vice President of Finance and System Controller.
Participate in special projects for the system as assigned periodically by Senior Vice President of Financial Services, Vice President of Finance and System Controller, Vice President of Financial Services-Operations (Community Hospitals) and the Chief Financial Officer.
Determine need and oversee development of routine reports for financial management of daily operations for subsidiaries.
Review tax returns for system and aid in preparation and review of information provided to tax return preparers, including community benefit schedules.
Serve as a liaison between the subsidiary corporations and corporate accounting including the supporting general accounting, accounts payable and payroll functions.
Facilitate the establishment and review of appropriate internal controls at the subsidiary corporations.
Coordinate reimbursement regulations and reporting needs of the subsidiary corporations with the Director and/or Manager of Cost Reporting.
Serve as a liaison between subsidiary corporations and patient accounting functions to address non-routine issues.
Oversee external audit for the health system including preparation of the audited financial statements, agreed upon procedure engagements and other external reporting requirements such as bond compliance requirements.
Responsible for analyzing leases for criteria to determine treatment and reviewing lease versus buy decisions through assistance with return on investment calculations.
Maintain working knowledge of regulations governing the reporting environment, including but not limited to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Governmental Accounting Standards Board issued standards.
Develop and monitor success of metrics for services being provided to the System by Corporate accounting functions.
Provide data for rating agency and other surveys including but not limited to S&P, Moody's, AHA, and insurance renewals.
Oversee the preparation of actuarial adjustments for liabilities, annual contributions, deferred outflow and deferred inflows.
Oversee the preparation and review of filings required for offshore insurance company.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Accounting
- 8 to 10 years of experience in a accounting position with a non-profit or governmental organization or private practice firm that has non-profit or governmental clients with preference for healthcare experience and management responsibilities.
- CPA Required
- Strong computer skills, particularly excel functionality such as pivot tables.
- Strong communication skills needed for board presentations.
