RQC, headquartered in Carlsbad, CA is seeking to hire full-time Construction Site Safety Manager/Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) for the Southern CA area for active work on military bases. Current projects are located in San Diego County and China Lake, CA. Headquarters is in Carlsbad, but daily work will be performed on the construction site.

This position is responsible for planning, preparing, organizing, implementing, and executing all safety administrative and performance requirements for an assigned construction project in accordance with contract specifications, EM-385, OSHA, RQ internal Safety Management System, and Accident Prevention Plan (APP). The position will integrate their efforts within a project team to support the safe production of quality work. We offer a competitive salary of $90,000 - $120,000+ (annually) depending on experience. For those living outside of the local area, a per diem will be offered. The average tenure of our Southern CA SSHO's is approaching 10 years. A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A SITE SAFETY MANAGER/SITE SAFETY and HEALTH OFFICER (SSHO)

Depending on the size and nature of our federal work, typical project teams are between 5-6 people, including a Project Manager, Superintendent, QC, Safety, Project Engineer and administrative support. On larger projects, teams can grow with multiple individuals within specific roles. Our SSHO's are key to the project team and its success. Our desire is to leverage each person's role and expertise (ex. Safety, QC, Production, Management) into an integrated team effort where we are responsible and accountable to each other. On any given day on the project, you'll spend a good amount of time walking the jobsite, interacting with subcontractors, while also spending time in front of a computer, ensuring our safety administration is accurate and current. Our SSHO's work on the project jobsite on an active military base.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A SITE SAFETY MANAGER/SITE SAFETY and HEALTH OFFICER (SSHO)

  • A combination of equivalent work experience, training in the field, and/or Occupational Safety and Health certificate programs through the OSHA Training Institutes or other national recognized safety training organization (whether certificates or degree programs), professional certifications such as CHST, OHST, and ASP through BCSP may be qualifying.
  • Five or more years applied work experience (or equivalent) in commercial construction industry required, with five or more years' experience (or equivalent) in construction safety management at the jobsite level.
  • Competent person training or experience in Fall Protection, Confined Space, Electrical, Trenching/Excavation, PPE and Scaffolding required. Other related professional degrees or certificates desired and will be considered "in lieu of" competent person training.
  • Five or more consecutive years of documented safety training, averaging 24 hours per year required.
  • Previous experience with USACE EM385-1-1 preferred.
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, Outlook, Internet, etc.) required.
  • Specific software literacy (Viewpoint, RMS/QCS) preferred.
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and OSHA 30-hour (within past 5 years) certifications required.
