Job description
The Computer Systems Professional (CSP) will be a team member for a highly visible Network Infrastructure and Engineering (NIE) group that manages enterprise services for Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). This specific team is designated under Core Services (CS) and makes up the Collaboration team under that group. The technologies we manage have an expectation of being available 24/7 and as such, members of the team are expected to be efficient, pro-active, collaborative, and hard-working to accomplish that expectation.
As a systems administrator your core job requirements revolve around keeping our services up and running through system upgrades, monthly OS and application patches, and review our daily security posture. This includes the ability to capture and read log files to troubleshoot issues, ability to engage in vendor support with the products we use, and provide a high level of customer support for incident response.
Computer Systems Professional 1 ($65,700 - $104,400)
Provides technical support services; designs, specifies, and develops solutions for complex heterogeneous computing infrastructure and contributes to fulfilling projects and organizational objectives. Identifying and implementing appropriate emerging technologies in the laboratory computing environment and will assist with research and development. Demonstrate effective communication, both verbal and written, at all levels. The selected candidate will apply standard system administration principles, theories, concepts, and techniques to support the Collaboration Team's service offerings. The selected candidate will provide resolutions to an assortment of problems, including analyzing issues and data under a variety of circumstances. The CSP1 will assist with firmware upgrades, hardware upgrades and replacements, and other maintenance duties. The CSP1 will assist with day-to-day operational issues and ongoing projects while continuing to develop their professional expertise. The selected candidate will learn internal Laboratory policies and procedures and how to apply these to resolve various issues. Along with following established direction from the team leader and senior staff, the selected candidate will utilize formal project management methodologies, gather customer requirements, perform risk management functions, and perform capacity and availability planning for computing infrastructure.

- Demonstrated competency in managing hardware and operating systems including system architectures, network infrastructures, and client server principles.
- Demonstrated competency in understanding security principles for server administration.
- Knowledge in the use of project management methodologies and technologies.
- Demonstrated competency in the ability to read, write, and translate technical ideas into verbiage that can be delivered to a variety of audiences.
- Demonstrated skill in working professionally with customers, vendors, and coworkers to maintain a successful work environment and complete mission.
Training/Certifications: Training/Certifications:
No certifications are required. Training in Office 365, Teams, Kemp load balancers, and specific BlackBerry UEM configurations can be provided.
Education/Experience:
Computing Systems Professional 1 Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications:
- Understanding of public key infrastructure (PKI) and certificates.
- Understanding working with Windows PowerShell.
- Understanding the use of load balancing and front end layers of abstraction for server security
- Experience with Microsoft Office 365 services and concepts (Azure AD, Exchange Online, OneDrive, SharePoint Online, Teams, etc.).

Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM with the potential for a hybrid work arrangement (partially onsite/partially offsite) from a location within 2 hours ground commute of this location. Reporting onsite will be periodically required. Hybrid is at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q(Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.
- Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
