Job Description
As a Life Enhancer you will be part of a clinical team providing medical services to our residents, but you will also be part of a larger neighborhood/household team providing joy and meaning to our residents’ lives. Work Performed
- Activities of Daily Living: Attends to all resident personal hygiene and personal needs including grooming, hygiene, dining and nutritional, mobility, elimination, psychosocial and safety needs. Allows and encourages residents in self-care, providing services as necessary for those unable to care for their own needs.
- Life Enhancement: Encourages residents' highest level of spiritual, social, physical, cognitive, and emotional functioning through planned and spontaneous activities of the Resident’s choice and household/neighborhood preference. Provides individualized resident-centered attention. Shares personal interests and talents with members of the household/neighborhood. Document activities according to regulations. Takes part in planned activities for residents in groups and individually. Takes part in Person First initiatives including learning circles, community circles and action teams.
- Personal Assistance: Protects the personal belongings of each resident including eyeglasses, dentures, hearing aids, furnishings, jewelry, clothing, memorabilia etc.; reports any missing items and takes part in in efforts to locate missing items. Transports resident to and from the dining room and to activities.
- Dining: Assists residents with dining as needed, including menu selection and meal service. Supervises residents while eating; assists residents who are unable to eat without support. Promotes and encourages social interactions during meals. Assists with personal after-meal services and cleanup.
- Environment: Shares in the household/neighborhood’s efforts to maintain clean spaces including resident rooms and common areas, as well as support spaces and equipment. Keeps the environment neat, clean, and safe. Supports all aspects of the household/neighborhood environment including pets, plants, visitors, and guests.
- Individualized Care/Service Planning: Takes part in in the resident’s care planning and care conference, serving as the residents’ closest advocate in directing their services and honoring their preferences.
- Observation: Observes residents closely. Identifies changing needs and conditions at first indication and reports immediately to clinical or household/neighborhood leadership as appropriate. Assists licensed team members in responding to code situations. Reports any injuries to Household/Neighborhood Clinical Leader immediately. Informs clinical leader about complaints from residents, families, or physicians. Responds to resident requests for assistance promptly.
- Clinical Records: Documents services provided in electronic health records according to established policies and procedures. Charts residents’ preferences in electronic health records.
- Safety and Supplies: Follows proper infection control practices. Properly disposes of biohazards. Maintains supply of materials to meet resident needs. Stocks rooms and supplies. Corrects or reports any unsafe conditions.
- Continuing Education: Attends in-service education programs, team conferences and nursing services conferences as scheduled; completes in-service programs as assigned.
- Additional Versatile Job Duties: Perform other duties as required to ensure the well-being, safety, and satisfaction of residents. May help ensure residents’ personal laundry is maintained in quality condition; may assist residents to wash, iron, fold and sort their personal laundry. May assist other household/neighborhood team members (within licensure).
Knowledge and Skills
- Practices and procedures of a certified nurse aid in long-term care; practices and procedures of restorative nursing services; procedures for clinical documentation.
- Ability to meet the needs of geriatric residents using patience, tact, and a desire to serve..
- Ability to read and write, follow instructions, and communicate effectively in English.
- Basic computer knowledge and skills with an aptitude to learn company software.
Education, Experience, Certifications and Licensure Requirements
- Graduate of an approved Certified Nursing Assistant program.
- Certified as a Certified Nursing Assistant in Virginia; maintains license in active status.
- Current CPR/AED certificate of completion.
- ServeSafe training. Preferred
- No experience required; experience working with senior population preferred.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Capable of sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, reaching, turning, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching over the head, grasping with both hands, and fine manipulation.
- Physically be able to carry, transfer, push and pull, and reposition residents with assistance or using appropriate equipment.
- Physically be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- Normal eyesight or use corrective lenses to achieve it.
- Ability to hear and distinguish between normal tones and be able to perceive the nature of sounds.
