We are seeking a Chief of Student Support and Wellness to join our executive team to deepen our Special Education programmatic impact and lead the expansion of a robust mental health services model. In this new role the Chief of Student Support and Wellness will design and lead implementation of a five-year, multimillion-dollar federal grant to expand the school’s school-based mental health program. They will manage, coach, and develop the Director of Student Support, Director of Community and Family Engagement & Out-of-School Time, and new Director of Student Wellness as each of those leaders oversee and grow their teams. The role offers the opportunity to develop innovative school-based mental health support and external partnership models rooted in student, family, and staff needs. Successful candidates are fierce advocates for Special Education and mental health services. They believe in the power of collective impact and build teams that innovate, take risks and take an equity-centered approach.

WHAT YOU’LL DO AS CHIEF OF STUDENT SUPPORT AND WELLNESS:

People Leadership (60%):

  • Catalyze community-wide investment in the student support and wellness model
  • Thoughtfully create and lead a new team Wellness within the school through collaborative, equity-centered and outcomes-driven leadership; Hire, onboard and manage a new Director of Student Wellness
  • Manage and develop the Director of Student Support as they lead and coach teams of practitioners towards internal goals and external compliance requirements
  • Manage and develop the Director of Community and Family Engagement & Out-of-School Time to solidify current practices, deepen impact and launch the school’s athletic programs
  • Partner with the Chief Talent Officer and Talent team to design and double the size of the team over a two-year period

Program Design and Grant Management (25%):

  • Utilize external research and collaborative design approaches to develop and continually improve new models for internal mental health support and external partnerships
  • Collect, reflect upon, and invest others in using data to drive program improvement
  • Serve as the lead for the implementation of the US Department of Education’s School-based Mental Health Grant, monitoring progress towards grant outcomes and partnering with the Philanthropy and Grants Manager to ensure grant deliverables are met

School-Wide Leadership (15%):

  • Serve on the Executive Team, setting school-wide vision and goals, collaboratively driving towards outcomes, and collectively owning strengths and challenges
  • Liaise with external stakeholders and the board as a representative of the school

  • You have at least seven years of combined leadership experience in Special Education, student wellness and program management, preferably in a school serving a high number of at-risk students
  • You have a proven ability to create and maintain a strong, positive adult culture achieved through empowering coaching and management practices
  • You have a track record of designing programs to measurably meet the needs of students
  • You consistently delight in and deliver on grant management outcomes and deliverables
  • You relentlessly drive to achieve goals
  • You thrive in a fast-paced environment and a have capacity to remain calm and focused when faced with unexpected challenges
  • You can work collaboratively with all stakeholders to innovate, problem-solve, and/or resolve conflict
  • You demonstrate a strong commitment to growth, professional learning, and equity-centered leadership
  • You can join our team between August 1 and October 1, 2023.
