Nazareth Ceramic Center in Nazareth, PA is looking for one ceramic studio artists assistant to join our team. We are located on 69 South Broad Street. Our ideal candidate is smiling, attentive, curious, and reliable.

Responsibilities

The Nazareth Ceramic Center is looking to hire an additional team member to our ceramic studio artists assistants staff. This position works approximately 10-20 hours per week. The approximate schedule is Mondays (9:30a-3:30p); Wednesdays 9:30a-5:30p); Thursdays (2:30p-8:30p); Fridays (10:30a-5:30p) and Saturdays (9a-5p). Usually one/two Saturdays each month can be scheduled off or traded for a Wednesday/Sunday (10:30a-5:30p) shift. There is some flexibility in schedule. Flexible staff can pick-up extra shifts.

General Job Description

General Duties:

  • Helping and teaching customers ceramic painting using ceramic underglazes, non-fired acrylic paints, pottery glazes for earthenware and stoneware ceramic clay-bodies. Also, clay hand-building, stencil board-art and simple fused glass classes.
  • Answering questions for customers
  • Setting up tables for customers and parties
  • Clean up of customer areas.

Sales and Customer Service: Always suggestive selling to the customers all events. Such as: Ladies Night, glass classes, workshops, kid's camps, and technique classes. And selling any other products and finished projects.

  • Discussing with customers our kids and adult parties.
  • Suggesting and selling fused glass, clay and board-art classes as an option for their next visit.
  • Collecting customer information for marketing purposes. We use QuickBooks P.O.S. and WIX website. Social Media skills are rewarded.
  • Being "social" the company outside of work

Language Skills:

Ability to speak, read and understand the English language. Including documents such as company policies, training materials, and safety rules. And ability to speak effectively with customers and employees.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to handle money and making change correctly. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as discounts and percentages

Other Skills:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work flexible hours that includes split shifts, evenings, holidays, and weekends
  • Ability to work with specific computer software such as QuickBooks P.O.S.
  • Ability to interface with co-workers and customers in a positive way and maintain a high degree of professionalism and customer service
  • Effective communication skills in person and over the telephone

Physical Requirements:

  • The employee must frequently lift, carry and/or move 10-25 pounds of inventory down and up a flight of stairs.
  • Frequently prices inventory and stock shelves with product. Ability to merchandise display areas is rewarded.
  • Get on a stepladder to reach for items and stock
  • Frequently have to lift and dispose of trash
  • Vacuum carpets, clean the bathroom, organize and keep clean our paint room.
  • Be on their feet helping customers, up to 9 hour shifts

Cleanup: The employee must frequently clean up after customers. This includes but is not limited to: Paint Brushes, Stamps, Sponges, Stencils, Tables, Chairs, Counters, Sinks, Floor. Lifting chairs, sweeping and mopping the floor, Clean bathrooms, sinks and toilets

Environmental Requirements: While performing this job, the employee will be working with an extremely hot kiln. Including dip-glazing, loading and unloading the kilns. The employee is required to follow all safety requirements regarding kiln procedures and perform the appropriate chemical tests. Proper ventilation is provided in the kiln room due to heat and a slight odor.

All staff members are cross-trained in all aspects of low-fire and mid-range earthenware and stoneware ceramic slip-casting production. We work in a slippery, wet, dusty environments with very low ceilings.

Available shifts and compensation: Available shifts all days except Sundays and Tuesdays. Compensation is $10.00 - $15.00/hour.
