The Housing Department provides safe and sustainable housing opportunities that preserves and expand the communities of the Seminole Tribe of Florida. The Housing Department provide homeownership opportunities, emergency home repairs and rental housing for Tribal Members through a variety of programs. The goal is to develop quality sustainable housing development in all Tribal Communities, which fosters a full and rich residential quality of life.

We are looking for someone that can hang door frames, dry wall repair, etc. All our work is Residential, so you may be needed to assist with other duties such as Electrical, Plumbing, cleaning up parking lots, putting up hurricane shutters, etc. The staff schedule is full-time Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm plus a monthly on-call rotation for afterhours and weekends. Note the Housing Office is located on the Big Cypress Reservation at 30901 Buffalo Jim North Clewiston, FL 33440 however the Maintenance Team cover Tribal homes within a 100 mile radius. We do provide a work vehicle to use during your shift, and you only take it home when it's your week being on-call which usually works out to every 4 weeks. We can provide a fuel stipend if you live more than 40 miles away from the office.

Position Summary

The incumbent in this position is responsible for skilled work in the construction, maintenance and repair of wooden articles, equipment and structures of the STOF Housing residential facilities. Work involves skilled hand and bench carpentry duties including the operation of power driven wood-working machinery. Assignments are received in the form of oral or written instructions, sketches, diagrams or blueprints from a Supervisor. Supervision may occasionally be exercised over various trades’ helpers who assist in various phases of carpentry work. Supervision is received from a technical or administrative supervisor who periodically inspects work in progress and upon completion for satisfactory application of carpentry skills and adherence to job specifications.

Qualifications / Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent GED is required. Licensed as Carpenter is preferred. Some vocational training or job-related coursework, or, completion of an instructional program that prepares individuals to apply carpentry technical knowledge and skills is preferred. A minimum of two (2) years of experience as a carpenter is required. Must possess a FL Driver’s License. Ability to travel to all STOF Reservations and other locations, and to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays. Must possess own hand tools.
