Job Description
Prepare food for meal service following the menu, using standardized recipes- Operate equipment in a safe manner (equipment includes, but is not limited to convection ovens, steamers, steam jacketed kettles, steam tables, tilting skillets, microwave ovens, ranges, slicers, and can openers)
- Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines
- Ensure that all food, dry goods, and chemical are handled and stored appropriately
- Date, rotate, and discard all appropriate food items
- Ensure that the kitchen and cafeteria are sanitized and organized
- Make sure that all equipment, dishware, and utensils are sanitized
- Use proper food handling techniques:
- Use appropriate hand-washing methods, gloves, and hair restraints as needed
- Monitor the temperature of food as it passes through the flow of storage, production, service, and transportation
- Serve meals to students and staff:
- Ensure safe and proper portioning of food
- Make sure that all intended reimbursable meals include the required food items on the tray
- Refill serving line as needed between lunches
- Assist in end-of-the-day clean up, including but not limited to washing/sanitizing pots, pans, dishes, silverware, tables, and all other equipment as necessary
- Manage cash drawer. Accurately count and record cash total each day
- Interact in a professional and courteous way with the students and staff. Report any problems to the kitchen manager
- Perform any and all other tasks as assigned by the kitchen manager and/or director of school nutrition
