Position Description

Participate in the analysis of a large multi-cooperative research grant aimed at conducting an epidemiologic study of mental health, psychological resilience, suicide risk, suicide-related behaviors, and suicide deaths among veterans. Involves working within a fast-paced interdisciplinary team on a statistical analysis of survey data. Statistical analysis includes, but is not limited to data reductions, causal modeling, survival analysis, and policy simulations. Involves working with multiple, large datasets by formatting, merging, and sub-setting them to meet the analysis goals. Makes independent decisions about how to implement analysis most effectively and accurately and how to report results. Ensures that tables, figures, and text accurately reflect the results of the analysis. Should be able to understand the statistical foundations behind models. Independently prioritize tasks related to own responsibilities to meet the goals and deadlines of the team. Will plan the programming strategy in order to ensure the effectiveness and accuracy of the analysis. Will work closely with the Principal Investigator, Project Director, Project Manager, Senior Biostatistician, Data Manager, and analysis team members at collaborating universities.

Basic Qualifications

  • Master's degree, in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, or related quantitative field;
  • Three or more years of relevant experience, preferably SAS and R programming experience. Relevant graduate work may count towards experience.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

Familiarity with standard statistical model fitting and checking techniques is a must.

Additional Information

This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.

This position is based in Boston, but the work may be done primarily remote. Any remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA*, CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, RI, VA, VT, and WA). Individual flexible and remote work options for this role will be discussed during the interview process. *Note: Harvard employees working in California must be exempt.
