Work Hours: Monday – Friday (40 hours) but may also include Saturday and/or Sunday due to work-related duties or travel time.

Job Purpose or Summary: The overall project goals are to evaluate the ability of new wildlife monitoring technologies to overcome challenges in monitoring and help guide decisions for a regional monitoring program based in acoustic monitoring in USDA Forest Service Region 3 (FS Region 3).
Essential Job Duties:
- Receive training sufficient to execute research monitoring project and understand field methods used for monitoring birds with acoustic recorder units from 24 April to 1 May 2023 in Flagstaff, Arizona and within the Williams Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest. Demonstrate proficiency in understanding project objectives and all field methods prior to conducting formal surveys.
- Initial deployment of ARUs from 1 May to 19 May 2023 across 3 Ranger Districts (Williams, Tusayan, North Kaibab) of the Kaibab NF.
- Moving deployments (two additional rounds) of ARUS, which involves retrieving units, storing data, and re-deploying units in different locations across the Kaibab NF from 22 May to 30 June 2023.
- Final retrieval of acoustic recorder units from 3 July to 14 July 2023 across the Kaibab National Forest. Collect, organize, and maintain written and electronic data obtained during all ARU monitoring deployments.
Minimum Qualifications:
- The successful candidate is required to complete any security or safety requirements established by the Department of Agriculture/Forest Service needed for the performance of this work. The Forest Service will provide any access to training course(s) requirements such as the use of Government Computer-Security Training, Defensive Driving to use a government vehicle, and any other Safety or Security requirements required for the use of Government Property, Services, and Equipment prior to use.
- Must have a valid Driver License
U.S. Citizenship required.
