Summary: Tetra Tech is seeking a Solar Engineer for our electrical team to support and perform the project and engineering design and execution. The solar engineer will be responsible for the utility scaled solar systems design and calculations (DC/AC systems), analysis of generation and storage energy systems, cost evaluation and benefits of BESS, life cycle estimation, equipment and vendor selection and sizing analysis, engineering and technical aspects for the design of solar and BESS and related equipment to ensure quality, reliability, safety, and cost-effectiveness.


Your Role:

  • Create technical documentation, specifications, operating procedures and troubleshooting support for Solar and BESS assets.
  • BESS modeling including system sizing, load profiles, life cycle estimation, augmentation plans, etc.
  • Perform DC systems and BESS electrical designs, SLDs, drawings, and other deliverables.
  • Perform solar system losses and voltage drop study, cable sizing and thermal ampacity calculations, power flow study, arc flash analysis, and reactive power study.
  • Develop solar systems design and construction standards based on the latest safety and reliability industry practices.
  • Collaborates with the Development team in the preparation and coordination of proposals/RFIs, bills of material, evaluation of product technical data, and other marketing efforts.
  • Review internal and external design documents and provide feedback on concept and code compliance, adherence to contract requirements, constructability, cost optimization and other factors for a complete and accurate design package.
  • Support the Interconnection team to get ready all the documentation required for the different Utilities.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications:

Required -

  • PE License or ability to obtain in 1 year.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
  • Minimum 10 years of demonstrated experience in electrical design/PV solar, including a minimum of 6 years of BESS design and energy storage conceptualization.
  • Advanced understanding of the NEC, IEEE, IEC, and UL (UL1741SA, UL 1973, UL 9540, UL9540A) requirements relevant to solar BESS/PV systems and other associated codes.
  • Advanced understanding of best practices for battery systems and integration with PV solar systems
  • Proficient in computer simulation of solar photovoltaic (PV) generation system, AutoCAD, PVSyst, ETAP, and SKM.
  • Must be an effective communicator and leader to success in a challenging and fast-paced environment.
  • A Pre-employment drug screen in compliance with state regulations is required.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

Preferred -

  • Preferred MSc in Power Systems or Renewable Energies.
  • Knowledge of construction processes and practices including electrical, structural, and mechanical.
  • Able to manage multiple project efforts, prioritizing tasks and resources.
  • Experience with cost/benefit analysis.
  • Experience with medium and high voltage systems.
