The Clinical Operations and Business Analytics (COBA) team at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) conducts analyses used to provide actionable information to operational and clinical departments across the institute. The COBA team is looking for an Associate Business Intelligence Analyst to support one of our largest and most important stakeholders, the Quality & Patient Safety (QPS) department. COBA utilizes an extraordinary range of healthcare data from a multitude of systems to support QPS. This data is used to track a wide array of quality metrics across many domains, including patient safety, infection control, patient satisfaction, patient feedback, patient reported data, EMR (Epic) data such as labs, encounters, claims, flowsheets, and much more. Using this data, the COBA team helps QPS understand, monitor, and improve the quality and safety of care provided to patients at DFCI by creating dashboards and conducting ad-hoc analysis. These dashboards and analyses are consumed by QPS department stakeholders to identify opportunities for improvement, support quality improvement initiatives, and provide required data to external regulatory agencies including but not limited to CMS, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts , and The Joint Commission.

The Associate Business Intelligence Analyst will work as part of a team, under the supervision of the COBA Associate Director and the Senior Analyst who supports QPS. In this role they will learn how to translate stakeholder specifications into programming logic, create insight-driving visualizations, and train end users on new reports. They will develop an in-depth understanding of DFCI’s data and data structures. The Associate BI Analyst will work on assignments including complex data analysis projects that can be multi-disciplinary or interdepartmental. They will also learn how to effectively collaborate with the Data Management team to address data requirements for analytic reporting, as well as other Informatics and Analytics (I&A) teams with expertise in specific data systems and/or analytical methodologies. They will work with a variety of tools (ex: Snowflake, SQL, Excel, Tableau, etc.) to access data, write queries, develop programming logic, run reports, manipulate data, and analyze datasets to meet the needs of institute.
