The University of Northern Iowa's Department of Art seeks applications for a full time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Graphic Design, starting August 2023. Responsibilities for this position include teaching three undergraduate courses per semester in Graphic Design, and courses in the art foundations sequence or general education program as needed. The successful candidate will establish and maintain an expanding record or professional, creative, and scholarly work; contribute to curricular development in the design area; provide service on departmental, college, and university committees; and act as student advisor and supervise student lab monitors.

Education Requirements:
M.F.A. or equivalent in Graphic Design, Visual Communication and Media, or related field required.
Required Qualifications:
Required qualifications include a focus on User Experience/Web and Interaction Design, and research-based design methodologies; University level teaching experience (graduate teaching experience may be considered); innovative portfolio of creative work demonstrating research-based design; publishing/exhibition record commensurate with experience; in-depth knowledge of design theory & methodology; strong typographic skills; and competence in a variety of design applications.
Desirable Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates with commitment to excellence in teaching in an undergraduate graphic design core curriculum with demonstrated expertise in at least three of the following areas of instruction: Experiential Design, Interface design, Typography, Publication Design, Branding, Application Design, Information Graphics, Motion Graphics, and Professional Practice. The successful candidate will be well organized and an excellent communicator able to articulate a vision for the integration of emerging technologies into the current design area curriculum. Knowledge of usability testing, both HTML and CSS with the Dreamweaver program and its significance to current trends in practice is desirable. Professional industry experience is preferred but not required.
